It would appear that at our office, all managment want to do is antagonise the workforce, and get everyones back-up, quite how this increases productivity , or makes the business more efficient is beyond me, but, maybe thats not the point....
In my DO, when I was on deliveries, it was called 'macho management'. We had bouts of it, before things eventually settled down again to a more reasonable level, except for a few years when the DO manager was a total bar steward, when we had macho management all the time. Fortunately, he eventually legged it to somewhere else (and anyone from Hemel Hempstead may spot a pun there which will enable them to work out to whom I'm referring).
More recently, we had a Mail Centre manager who was even more of a bar steward - even some of the other managers hated him. However, he too eventually buggered off, and was replaced with a more reasonable bloke.

Where as Lazy sods are rewarded with overtime payments (when RM decide to pay out).

My advise is 'don't work hard and finish on time
RM will do you no favours, they'll screw you over at every chance and steal money from you by any means (CS, OVERTIME, BONUS'S ETC).
By 'Lazy Sods' do you mean people who do the job properly i.e start on time,do 1/6 d2d's in duty time not your own time, take meal relief in duty time etc etc?

In our small rural office job and knock still exists (to an extent) If the office is clear we go home early if not we all muck in to clear what we can when we can.

We all come in early no meal relief and get done. When (not if) this changes our practice will change i.e. meal relief, door 2 doors daily, 2 man vehicle checks, no mail in the front etc etc. The business has changed dramatically and will continue to do so but ultimately (full time contracts) are very well paid for manual unskilled work for pushing letters through a door, contentious maybe but take a look around the job market ! I think our rural office is somewhat protected from many of the things I read on this forum however .... any how tirade over

On the other hand there have been others who, if seen , have to stay til their finishing time doing all sorts of crap. My thoughts are everyone should be made to return to office and work their hours....this also means that if anyone goes over their time they should be paid and NOT questioned by doms . :so there
EXACTLY the same same situation in my DO. SAME people, EVERY day

Dont go back then, drop your despatched parcels off at a post office and go home.

Ive never went back to the office since 2nd deliveries were scrapped, except for overtime.

There is a moral to this tale, don't run around,do the job as it should be done, you get paid from your start time to your finish time, there is no job and knock anymore so get over it.if you can complete your delivery before your time then you ain't got enough on your duty and please don't say that your more efficient than the rest of your mates in the office as i have heard it all before.

I dont run round, the days of running are long behind me. But yes you are right... i don't have a big enough round, im no more efficient than the next guy and it would't be for me to judge anyway.
RE I.B. and being sacked.... good point, well put and heeded.

Even though P&L has been on our section for about three months, job and knock still exists, so we've got morons coming in early and working through their morning breaks as well as cutting corners to get finished early. One pair of duties gets finished at least an hour earlier than I do every day, I can't wait to see their faces when they finally get more added on to their duties. :pray

Surely the problem will be that extra will be added to all duties?

That's the way it works to my eyes. That's why today (yet again) I could not complete my round(and extra) within my duty time.

Food for thought for the 'racers' ; early starters; and the cheats

Of course I could be wrong

Not all deliveries are created equal, I work at the same pace or at least try to do everything the same, and on different deliveries i can finish at anything upto 2 hours different, even on busier days. I don't think the new routes have taken into consideration much else except number of drops which is a bit silly when you have one on a flat terraced street and another up 50 steps a house.. though of course on the hilly ones you are obviosuly going to be slower and probabaly flagging by the end, espeically in the heat like today.

Possibly, but management are taking note of when duties are finishing, and not covertly either - there's even been one lino out in the yard with a clipboard and a printed sheet upon which he jots down the finish times for each pair.
