Postman Peter writes children's book

A POSTMAN who delivers mail in Kenilworth has just written and published his first children’s book called Well Fancy That.

Peter Warren, who lives in Oaks Road with his fiancee Barbara, recently launched his new 36-page book, which is illustrated by Jeff Platten, and it is now available for the public to buy.

The 45-year-old said: “I’ve been writing for quite a few years but I really got into it last year when I wrote a poem after my dad Kenneth died.

“Doing this just made me want to write more and more, and now if I’m not writing I’m thinking about writing.

“I actually thought of four verses of Well Fancy That while I was delivering post one day and as soon as I got home I wrote them down.”

Mr Warren, the youngest of nine brothers and sisters, also met his story illustrator Mr Platten while delivering mail.

The postman said: “I was talking to Jeff one day and he told me he was an artist, so I asked him if he would illustrate my book, as pictures would really add something to it.

“The story is like a reverse on Tom and Jerry but with a mouse, a horse and a cat.

“Once it was finished and I saw how good the illustrations were I thought I’d just go for it and publish the book myself.

“I heard Beatrix Potter was a self-published author at first, so I figured it would be a good path to go down.”
