Yes it was at the same time, they make it difficult for me as its a 25 min bike round to where my round is so a 50 min round journey just for 1 bag. Its a nightmare when I cant get a lift.
Jim mate... Dont worry... Just peddle for 25 then deliver 1 bag... peddle for another 25 pick up bag... Im sure after all the time your paid if you get 3 bags done your doing very well... capeech????

There should be travelling time built into your duty, in my office everyone gets 10mins even if you just start outside the office but the furthest away is 15mins on a bike

I love this Site, Finally I am getting all the answers to the questions I didnt know, they (The DOM's) tell you jack and would quite happily see you go out with a bag splitting at the seams and your backbone quaking under the pressure, I have never been made aware of all the procedures to follow but reading all the comments on this site has brought a hole new perspective of the way I should do things in the future.
Thanks to everyone who has posted replies to my questions, silly as some may seem I am so grateful for every comment posted. Respect to RMC and CWU !!

James there is no such thing as a silly question, only silly answers, at least imo.

And as IWW will tell ya... WITH A SAFETY HELMET!!!
Oh yes! And if you get spotted not wearing a helmet, there's always this:
There's no Health and Safety Executive requirement for cycle helmets to be used by UK employees.
The Health and Safety Executive's position is:
“Cycle helmets used on the public highway are specifically excluded from the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at work regulations. This means that it would be very hard for an employer to force an employee to wear a cycle helmet on health and safety grounds. HSE has no remit to dictate the uniform policy of a company unless it falls within the scope of PPE. Ultimately, the wearing of cycle helmets is a matter of individual choice, any stance to the contrary could potentially be challenged on human rights grounds. With regards to the use of cycle helmets on the public roads by members of the public, this is a policy area that falls totally within the remit of the Department for Transport.â€

IWW I think you will find that Royal Mail issued helmets as uniform policy PPE. I still think it was wrong, but they covered their backs on this one. Good luck as most people I see around in different offices do not wear one. You are excluded from wearing one if you have a doctors note, but they have to take you off bike duty!!!!!!

I've told him he can have the bike and I'll walk around and book out every day. I'm waiting for the appeal (which it will do as his mind is made up, or rather has been made up for him) so as I can bring up several issues about the office boy concerned and mark his card for him. I've got quite a bit on him and the two years I get will be worth it.
