Re: POLL:Get rid of Saturday deliveries?
No, for obvious reasons as mentioned through this thread. As a a rural posty I also get the Wally Week. So it's 13 weeks holiday per year for me!

Re: POLL:Get rid of Saturday deliveries?
dont see the point , if we get privatised we could end up doing a three day week any way , the dutch were the last to go to the private sector [tnt] and several years down the road they have decided that they can only afford to deliver three days per week ,and if the dutch goverment wants five that they would have to pay for the other two days of service...

No for me as it would lead to job losses and I am not selfish, when we went for the job we all knew it meant Saturday working.
For we were soldiers once, and young

Re: POLL:Get rid of Saturday deliveries?
Think of it from a customer's point of view, for some people, being able to get delivery on a Saturday is a lifeline when they work Mon- Fri. Keep the customers happy I say, without them, there is no business.

Re: POLL:Get rid of Saturday deliveries?
Plenty don't finish until about 3pm on a Saturday in our office. Absolutely ridiculous. No home life, season tickets given up, the union should have at least secured a reasonable finish on a Saturday. Politicians keep banging on about family values. Whats the point when people are working all day? I just don't get it.

Nothing at all wrong with having a delivery on Saturday morning, nothing at all.red 86 wrote:Getting rid off saturday deliveriers will mean loss of jobs loss of the USO and one step neaer to a part time service. However much off a pain they can be they have to stay
What is unacceptable, is making the working day on a Saturday, longer. No need whatsoever for that, none at all.

No, in our opinion it means we can post something on a Friday and the customer can still have it on Saturday for the weekend, otherwise they would have to wait 2 days until Monday, and this would create more of a Monday backlog I imagine..

Re: POLL:Get rid of Saturday deliveries?
The problem with this is that RM see Saturdays as a "normal" working day, hence the longer attendance. This is what is making people more and more anti Saturday. Don't know what you lenght of service is, but when you have done nearly 25 years, as I have, you begin to see what you are missing. Next time you are working on a Saturday, look and see who is up and about early but not working. They are having a normal life, unlike the average postman/ woman.DirtyHarry wrote:Nothing at all wrong with having a delivery on Saturday morning, nothing at all.red 86 wrote:Getting rid off saturday deliveriers will mean loss of jobs loss of the USO and one step neaer to a part time service. However much off a pain they can be they have to stay

Re: POLL:Get rid of Saturday deliveries?
And if you post on a Saturday? Would you then want us to be delivering on a Sunday too? To be honest you don't have to worry.shipmaster122 wrote:No, in our opinion it means we can post something on a Friday and the customer can still have it on Saturday for the weekend, otherwise they would have to wait 2 days until Monday, and this would create more of a Monday backlog I imagine..
There will always be packet, special and tracked deliveries on saturday.
It's a growth business and saturday is premium day.
Letter deliveries is a different story.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

If that's the forecast then Royal Mail could argue they are fulfilling their Saturday obligation by having a skeleton crew/OT volunteers performing the Saturday duties.
The rest of us could then work Monday to Friday.
The argument over job losses is a real one. However, many offices have lost well over 1/6 of their workforce in recent years and are understaffed, hence the obsession with lapsing/absorbtion.
