Unless Harry Potter can get involved there's no way those machines could collate anything. In my opinion they have become yet another elephant in the room but they only cost 150 thousand apiece - two at our office @ 300 thou - now if you equate that to manpower, which is versatile, you would have another 15 members of staff @ 20k. The machines have to be maintained and the manpower necessary to run them will be in excess of 100k a year and of course the machines are idle during attendance time. I'm sure someone will justify them but I don't think they produce enough to justify the expense.

They're crap, mate, they don't even do a very good job of the few things you can actually put through them. Numbers get mixed up, if the postcode's wrong you're stuffed, then at the end of each run you'll get a load of letters that the machine couldn't even sort. They'll save ten minutes on the old mech bundles, but that ten minutes comes when you get to the IPS and find you've got 50% more than you used to get.

door to doors should be sleeved, they create lots of problems when they are bulky or there are lots of them,as for the companies objecting that may be to late i know in some cases people of companies have decided that their leaflet would be less affective in a group of 4, 5 or 6 the already low percentage of poss buisness. 3 was about as much as they would accept

So you do your lapsing on a Saturday then, when you have done 100% of your D2D by the end of Friday? :chuckle

wish i knew how you dont do lapsing !!!told by our rep we have to do it even though i go over every day and have done all year , and it is obvious that there is no spare time in my duty,i have to do it before we start our delivery which most days mean i dont start my delivery untill around 11am, the only option is to cut off , which means it is sitting on my bench the next day as the managers have stopped even trying to cover cut offs now , just attempting to cover the daily delveries that they did not cover in the morning ( by this i dont mean that the managers get off there arses and do a delivery , just try to get a afternoon SA to del some of it )
i know i should just cut off every day but it just becomes too much hassle ,for the 45 mins i go over just keep booking it ,
Your rep is a twat, you're being had over.If you guys are cutting off because of lapsing then he should be in touch with his ADR.
In fact why don't you or some of your colleagues contact him.

Seems to be quite a bit of confusion(?) about the Delivery Supplement....

My understanding (from an OPG perspective) was that RM removed the payment per item and replaced it with a single payment called the Delivery Supplement. I suspect that RM did this in the belief posties would be delivering more than 2 per week making a single payment more profitable than an individual one. It appears to me and others that this assumption has proved false. As the Delivery Supplement is not basic pay it can/could be re-negotiated should RM feel that they aren't getting a good deal which is the increasingly loud 'whisper' that I'm hearing. Obviously there are issues with the DS as some people getting it don't deliver them but....

Bout time the company changed policy on D2Ds.

In our office, no D2Ds are delivered as the customer expects - no wonder the volumes are going down. Main problem is on the duty holder's rest day or holiday. On the days the Rest Day Cover guy is off also, it's hit or miss on whether the D2Ds go out or not. No one takes responsibility for them. We end up with a York and a half's worth of undelivered D2Ds each week - and we're only a small office! Crazy!

The old system was better for us and the company - the company shot itself in the foot with this unreliable system.

RTP wrote:No, but I do have another couple of questions on D2D.

1.How many D2D is supposed to trigger them coming together as one in plastic sleeves? From memory I thought it was 6 lots.
2. Has anyone had 6 lots and if so, did they come in plastic sleeves.

Ta.

No figure triggers shrouding. However ,if you do strike the 12-14 weekly D2d figure as an area ,it will become financially viable to invest in the required plant in order to scale down prep time :cuppa

Well that's not strictly true. There is interest and an attempt to make sure all the D2D are delivered and on time. Each frame has a sheet which the postie signs to say x amount has been delivered for that day. All things being equal you would think that would suffice - but the best laid plans. Parts of deliveries left in, deliveries not covered and D2D not thrown off by the person doing it on overtime - the managers are so grateful that the mail is covered they lose sight of the fact that D2D is now regarded as mail by everyone except them.

I think it was a mistake to allow any movement away from a standard 16% per day.
It should have been a business wide mandatory position.
I also think it was a mistake to insist it was prepped last.
By then time pressures are starting to kick in and leaving it is seen as an easy way out,if it was always prepped first there would be no "get out" clause.

There was an attempt to rectify anomalies by setting out one column per day on each frame. However on P&L the loops are designed to complete at roughly the same time but with the column system it meant that one person would be delivering a complete loop of D2D and the other guy none....................

D2D was always a problem in one sense or another and continues to be so apparently.

I always prep my d2d first. I guess I can expect to be conduct-coded ... ?

I just don't see the difference, work is work. I'm on a rota at the minute where I do a sixth per day. So I make sure it gets done.

There is a policy, BUT, enforcing it is another matter. When managers are constantly firefighting then D2Ds is the last thing that get their attention. With D2Ds, managers have to supervise each RDC guy, each standin, and it's just one thing too much. Most managers spend their time prepping and doing skimmed deliveries! Sad but true.

jessicarabbit wrote:I understand the theory but it is fighting a losing battle to explain to posties that it is just workload now. Delivery Postman who prep and deliver 6 D2D in a week certainly feel they are working harder for their 40 hours than the PHG who sits reading the paper and sipping coffee with the DOM for his 40 hours.....and he may have a point.

Bloody Hell, I hold a RLE duty but I have plenty of specials to scan and hand out, log books and van keys to hand out BRP/PO box mail to deal with enquiry office and phone calls surcharges redirections to to get ready for going out to the frames a 50 min delivery to prep without a frame then I have to deliver it. Packets to put away. Watch my members and co workers walk back in the DO from delivery well before finish time, watch them go home nice and early on Saturday whilst I'm there till 2pm.

I think I'm in need of working a all paid work hours supplement!!!!!
