Reliefs days off question

Post by pissedoffpostie »

Apparently under article 8 of the human rights act people have a right to a family life. Prisoners get regular times when they know they can see their loved ones but in our office reliefs have to go and tug their forlock to a manager if they want to know more than two days in advance when their day off is next week.

The work planner plans duties for these duties 3 weeks in advance but management give by default reliefs no more than two days notice what their duty is next week let alone for the other two ahead when they could, bad for efficiency and bad for those who need to plan time to visit, care for families/relatives and dont live virtually in the same house as them.

How much notice do you get if you are a relief as to which duties you will be on and when your days off are going to be?

Our reserves sometimes don't know what they are on until the end of the week.
But the clued up ones will have a look at the holiday book and all that in advance.
I thought this was normal.
Also sickness can sometimes throw a spanner in the works.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

yeah thats what i was looking for - if it was 'normal' we dont have a holiday 'book' we have holidays printed on the wall but they dont know who they will get and we have managers who use this knowledge as a tool. They often dont have time to approach managers anyway and check it out they are stuck at their benches. I thinks its wrong that they are not allowed to know as far as possible when they are supposed to have days off even if they are warned these days are contigent on sickness. Prisoners know when they will have access to their families, most people when entering the job arent told they will have to deal with this. Access to families should be a right not a privilige

I'm a holiday reserve and I'm lucky to be told what duty I'll be on the following week (I've had to ask before). I do look at the holiday list but as I can do most of the duties in my office it's hard to work it out but I can be sure that I never get a Saturday or a Monday off. :d'oh! :d'oh! :d'oh!

WTF????? Are my ears n eye decieving me>?????????

RESERVES SIGN FOR DUTIES BY SENIORITY AS FAR AS IM AWARE?????

So as mentioned.. 3 weeks before the 198 is rostered and Duties put out for signing.... The second week before you sign and then the dutys are allocated.... The rest put on the 552/343 to sign for,....

Reserves should have a week before knowing what duty they will be on the week after... EASY...

Now the day covers...(sick first day) goes out on the 343 and to sign from the o/t aggy... That way is fair and by the old way the best way to keep a even selection of people for O/T...

Any bookroom officers onlin please tell the way that your office runs????

Its wrong to tell the reserve the duty on a monday morning of the week.... How can they plan a life???

when I was a reserve I did not know what duty I was doing till I got in. Sometimes it meant an easy day staying and sorting but on others I could be put on a duty at 8.00am after starting at 7.00am and I did not even know where it started or how I got out there. That's why I applied for the worst FT walk in the office.

Reserves

Post by johnnyp »

Our line manager normally comes round on a thursday and asks our 9 reserves what walk they want for next week in seniority. If theres anything left, the bookholder will then go to guys and ask if they want to work there rest day.

But if the dutys to be covered do not have a long weekend then that's just the way it is aint it.
Our guys get a mix,but it does really depend on who's off.
I do feel sorry for them at times, but it's a seniority thing as most new comers are reserves.

The Reserves SHOULD get a fixed rest day in my book and then the duty holder knows wot day off they get.... SOME senior people sign for it and give juniors a chance to sign for walks of there own... Make it a Monday rest day and see the old fellas rush to sign for it!!!

PS It should be fair tho....
