Actually - the tool that managers can use to check performance is generous on the side of Posties, to the point that our managers gave up using it. I believe they only used it 3 or 4 times, I know at one point they actually counted the mail in the frame and the actual figures was around 10-15% lower than the figures given by the software.

AFAIK that tool is now obsolete anyway, and there is no current agreed method of testing performance. There isn't in our office anyway. There aren't many that cut off, but the ones that do get no hassle.

heres a thought! get the "workplace coach" to show you how to do the job properly, follow his instructions and see how your manager reacts. the workplace coach was interviewed for that task by royal mail management, can a workplace coach complete your duty on time?? just a thought

LAPSING...... The purpose of which is to take you up to your paid hours when you have spare time in your duty. If you don't have time in your duty DON'T DO IT simple as that, your'e obliged to work at a fair reasonable pace, so do just that, don't come in early do it in your car, run or the likes...... Let your manager say what he likes I presume your in the union use them. It is illegal to force you to do unpaid overtime and that's just what they seem to be doing.......

Yes you are right ------ in a way.

They should always plan duties based on acceleration but anyone using a car has made that part of the planning easier for the managers. The PCOD does say you can stop using your car at any time but requests that you give your manager some warning.

Its an unagreed document to a procedure that does not have Union support but might be worth checking out RMs PCOD document:

Q24. If I sign up to use my car, but decide on some occasions not to use it, will I be instructed to use it or have disciplinary action taken against me?
A. No. You have volunteered to use your car and not doing so incurs no sanction. However, if you are unreliable and give no notice of when you will or won’t, or say you will and then don’t, Royal Mail will prevent you from using your car and require you to use official acceleration instead by withdrawing its insurance from you.
and
Q28. Once someone has signed up for the scheme, how much notice will they have to give should they wish stop using their own car, except for the normal reasons, loss of license – broken down etc?
A. There is no formal notice period, as such. We only ask that you give as much notice as you can and be reliable. In other words, treat your manager, as you would wish to be treated yourself. If you are unreliable, Royal Mail reserves the right to stop you using your private car, with immediate effect.
On RMC we complain that managers don't treat us with respect and in most cases its a well warranted complaint. However, should we treat them the same when we get a chance, or should we treat them as we would prefer them to treat us. I would say give them the 2 weeks notice unless there are good reasons not to, why give them a reason to treat you even worse than now.

Of course that's just my opinion, but I am anti-PCOD anyway.
