Re: Households
The more structured a delivery plan you have for D2D the less likely problems will occur if members go sick or something else goes wrong.
If a reserve goes on a duty and there is no record of what has been done and the duty holder hasn't followed any particular plan then the whole thing falls apart.
Managers are like children...keep it simple for them and they are less likely to break something.

Totally agree with the above comment, with the increased workload now and postman finding it difficult to get their own round out and completed in the time then D2Ds will always be seen as crap mail that has to take second place to stamped mail

Re: Households
But they are now classed as LIVE MAIL and it's wilful delay not to deliver them, best just to take them out and cut off what you can't get done in that day.malcolm3011 wrote:chickenwittle wrote:dont think many treat them as live mail and that includes managers lots of posties see them for the junk they are same as the customers dont care about the union putting them into workload trying to save jobs they will always be seen as crap

The consequence will be Royal Mail having to pay compensation for failed contracts.malcolm3011 wrote:Totally agree with the above comment, with the increased workload now and postman finding it difficult to get their own round out and completed in the time then D2Ds will always be seen as crap mail that has to take second place to stamped mailchickenwittle wrote:dont think many treat them as live mail and that includes managers lots of posties see them for the junk they are same as the customers dont care about the union putting them into workload trying to save jobs they will always be seen as crap
Ultimately the consequence will be lost business and less work in the DO.
Less work = less jobs.
What will people decide next? That they don't have enough time to do brown envelopes? Or A4 envelopes?
Maybe when every DO has had at least 1 colleague sacked for not delivering their D2D, then people will take them seriously.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Re: Households
Our floaters don't do them, i always put 1/6th to one side for my day off, but they never do them so i give them to the manager at the end of the week. It's then out of my hands, as long as i do my share i'm not bothered.

There is not a duty in the whole business that has D2D's allocated to it that does not have time to prep them.fishtank wrote:I don't get the "didn't have time to do them" argument.
It's only at the end of your working day that you don't have time to do things.
You can't pick and choose what parts of the job you think are more important than others and management shouldn't be allowed to either.
I know that,you know that,clash,teebs dgp.........(Apologies but i can't name all of ya that has a brain)

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Households
Actual I will beg to differ with you there, the national agreement does not state a sixth per day, don't know where you got that quote from, here's the door to door excerpt out of the agreementclashcityrocker wrote:1. In the interim period, prior to a formal revision, delivery colleagues must deliver at least 1/6th of all their door to door items each working day along with ordinary addressed mail. In line with the national agreement.zx135 wrote:
How do you figure that? No part of the door to door agreement actually states any percentage per day
Not a percentage I'll grant you, but it does say a minimum of 1/6th each day.
the agreement states:
"The growth ambitions for Door to Door will be managed responsibly, and will be supported in the medium term by the roll out of delivery methods across units nationwide.
In the interim to ensure that D2D workload is covered effectively in line with this agreement, and in advance of units realigning duties through full revision activity to take account of D2D, resourcing of hours associated with the workload linked to D2D will be dealt with through locally agreed interim arrangements and reviewed through the weekly resourcing meetings in all delivery units. To aid the transition, offices that have not deployed delivery methods revisions will have to provide genuine and demonstrable solutions to any weight or volumetric issues.
In addition to the above special attention will need to be given to Bank Holiday weeks through the weekly resourcing meetings, units will also need to have agreed contingency arrangements in place for late arrivals."

Re: Households
That's not the actual agreement, that's an interpretation of it by royal mail, we never voted on that document and never agreed to it, the only part we have agreed to is the bit I've quoted, this is half the problem, everything should be put down in black and white with no room for individual interpretation but it never is and always left to be agreed locally after the voteclashcityrocker wrote:zx - it is in here

We don't get to vote on a lot of our collective agreements...otherwise we would spend all our time voting and the union would be bankrupt.zx135 wrote:

The bottom line is...they are guidelines agreed by RM & CWU as "best practice".
You can ignore them if you like...no-one will shoot you for it and it isn't against the law but when or if things go tits up management will attempt to use these guidelines against you...you can bet on that
They are an attempt to make the job simpler that's all...to avoid arguments between members and more importantly avoid arguments with managers....and preferably therefore make life a little easier for your rep.

Re: Households
The thing is,yes D2Ds are good for business and help keep us all in jobs and I appreciate that. But the fact is(in my DO anyway),since the agreement and D2Ds becoming "live mail" and thus supposed to be factored into the overall workload,no extra time or manpower has been allocated to ensure all D2Ds are prepped and delivered. You have part-timers coming and being told "its a light day, there's only x amount of letters" completely ignoring the fact they have 3,4 or 5 lots of D2Ds needing prepped.
I keep on hearing D2Ds are live mail and should count towards the total amount of letters that day ,but they never are and we struggle on.Its a joke.
