I think to be honest if they were a bit simpler and a bit more reliable there wouldn't be much in it.
Half the wasted time is because they decide to do something completely random just when you need them not to.

Keep mine in my leg pocket of the new trousers, although a bit heavy so have to do my trousers up a notch on my belt so as not to be de-bagged on the round!

All delivery workers have a PDA in my office, as we are all on P&L with trolleys (in theory for some, in practice for others).

:hmmmm the P&L duties have 1 PDA between them in my office but then, our PDAs go off to be repaired and never come back (I suppose we shouldn't send them to the PDA Triangle  ).

crazy thing is when a battery is f**ked or knackered they can't be sent back on their own, you have to send back the whole pda? With the state of the batteries now I think you guys in the DOs will be back to pen and paper before xmas pressure

these pda's were designated to be used 'only' from the van NOT carried by means of a trolley pouch or whatever you think is o.k, they repeat were only to be used from the van
just go find and read the agreement on the use of a pda, so if you use as intended yes, by touting them around you could ? save time (depending if they work correctly)

Has that agreement be updated iv'e not seen anything that say it has ?

It's a bit less clear cut than that axeman.

The LTB states that...
Trials of the equipment found that the PDA was too bulky for Delivery Staff other than Drivers to carry round and therefore the PDAs will not be given to those who deliver by foot, cycle or high capacity trolleys.

..but that's not an agreement not to.
...and the agreed SSOW for the PDA states...

Carrying the PDA device on cycle, trolley, foot deliveries and during collections.
• The PDA device must be placed in the appropriate fitting when performing deliveries or collections. This shall prevent the device from falling and becoming a tripping hazard or be damaged on impact.
• To prevent slip trips and falls on delivery the operator must operate the PDA device in a stationary position at all times. This should be done at the customers premises or while in the vehicle.
• Where provided the hand strap of the device must be used at all times when holding the device and holstered when on delivery or collection.

Using the Proof of Delivery function of the PDA device on cycle, trolley and foot deliveries and also during collections
• The PDA device must be set up for the customer’s signature at their address while in a stationary position.
• The device is safe to use when operated as intended but contains an integrated 1D linear scanner and a laser. Therefore the beam MUST NOT be pointed to your own or others eyes.
• When using the screen only the stylus pen or finger-tips can be used.. Using other pens may damage the screen.
• After the PDA has been used it must be returned immediately and secured to the appropriate holster, case or vehicle cradle.
• Do not move off to the next delivery point or return to the vehicle while reading information on the PDA screen.
• If you have difficulties with the operation of the scanner and find it unreliable you must inform your line manager immediately.

Thats all wonderful advice and very useful. Begs the question though, why was my 'training' "click this, pin here, walk 0000000, scan and done" Later I discovered taking the battery out is the only way I know how to fix any frequent issue with it - frozen outs and so on. Never told about such rules of use even existing never mind look at them and I would place a large bet that my trainer hasn't the faintest idea about them either. And I use a PDA 20-30 times every working day. Makes me wonder if these rules exist only to cover RMs arse after the fact. Surely having not been advised of any of that makes it all null and void in a legal sense? Sorry to hijack the thread with a grumble.

In a pouch pocket is where I carry it, and yes i do use it at the same time as walking.

Resetting Your Computer
If the CN3 completely stops responding, or an application is locked up and does not respond, it may be necessary to perform a reset.

Preferred Reset Method
The recommended method in recovering the CN3 is to press and hold the yellow Power On/Power Off button on the front of the CN3 for about 10 seconds. This performs a graceful system shutdown and no data is lost in the process.

Secondary Reset Method
If performing the preferred reset method does not restore system operation, it may be necessary to press the reset button inside the battery compartment of the CN3. This method does not guarantee that cached disk data will be saved, and as such, transactional data may be lost during the reset. All other data is preserved.

No you can't save time with them over an Epod card, whether in the van or walking. I do both, have been using PDA's for months and they take more time, regardless of how they are used.
