Re: quiting as rep
Feel empathy with every word you say, dont quit, pls! One of the worst things for me accept is that you cannot control them. just reason with them over and and over again, oh and sometimes bully them
When i first became rep there were people in the office that would never entertain the union, these people who i wouldnt give the time of day to and them me are now members and working with me to try and help. There are ppl now in the union that i would have swore my mortgage on would never have joined. That has took years of day in day out fighting peoples points of view, although it moves at a sleeping snails pace they do see what you do for them.
Stick with it.

I get mightily peed off at times but at the moment I'm hoping to stick it out until the delivery methods revision has been planned implemented and (dont laugh) settled and working. Then perhaps a break from being a local rep and see if eventually any one steps forward to take over.

whatamess!! wrote:Thinking of quiting as rep due the members i have to represent, alot of them are not worth my time. memebers in the office doing everthing backwards regarding delivery methods and the revision which has been implementated. Seem as if i'm wasting my time. should i quit and just laugh when what i've been telling them becomes reality. idiots who can't see past there nose and who are killing the job e.g not using trolleys, not having breaks, going over there time, killing the job for others. totally pissed off and ready to jack it in!!! how do other reps feel?? support from higher union officials on full time release is s**t, shame on them. in a dark place at the moment, heeeeeeeeeeelp!!
Okay here's my 2 peneth worth Quit !!!!!
My reasoning:
To my knowledge a unit rep gets no or very little payment for the work they do. Yes i understand senior officials do, but you guys do the job out of the goodness of your heart and deal with all sorts of garbage, and at the end of the day for any given problem you cannot please every individual hence you will get flack from your own membership.
I do feel that on the whole, firstly we owe you people our grattitude, but on the issues you state more importantly we owe you our SUPPORT. You are obviously not getting that from the membership you represent so why put yourself through daily hassle when you are not getting that support. I'll put it another way, if you were collecting for a charity and they were wasting the funds you were raising would you carry on supporting that charity, I don't think so, we would put our efforts in else where, so that's what I would be doing if I were in your shoes.
I also believe and I think this is a very important point..... The union at all levels should make it clear that they will not represent any member when they are in contravention of ANY union recomendations e.g If your getting done for having mail nicked out of your car whilst on delivery, then NO union representation.
So there you go that's how i see it, anyhow good luck whatever you decide......

Rule 4
2. Members are obliged to:
1. treat Union staff, officials and members with respect and courtesy;
2. support and promote the Union’s objectives;
3. promote the CWU’s role in the workplace;
4. take an active part in the Union’s decision making processes;
5. respect the Union’s democratic processes and decisions;
6. inform the Union of changes to their membership details;
7. ensure their Union subscriptions are kept up to date.
I think to be honest number 7 is the only one a fair proportion of the membership manage to abide by and to be fair it seems to be the only one HQ give a damm about.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Very Interesting FT didn't know of that, just wish they would follow it through as people in our DO have been represented when using their carfishtank wrote:Cheetah wrote:The union at all levels should make it clear that they will not represent any member when they are in contravention of ANY union recomendations

Re: quiting as rep
Ive often thought of putting that up on the notice board.
It would be interesting to see the reaction of the mbrs.

Re: quiting as rep
I brought these rules up during the strike and since with ppl who treat the unions guidlines as a joke, i was told that we cant turn down members, BS its an organisation with a HQ in Wimbeldon it need s money simple as that, i feel sorry for the ppl that organised a union and what they must of gone through to make a union, because its been hijacked by ppl who need a certain standard of living, rant over, sry!
