Guard assaulted in Lower Gornal post office robbery

A SECURITY guard was assaulted in an armed robbery as he made a cash delivery to a Lower Gornal post office yesterday morning.

The robbery took place shortly after 9am, as he was approached by two men and assaulted near the doorway of the post office on Louise Street.

The guard was injured in the attack and was taken to hospital for minor injuries.

The offenders stole a cash box containing a quantity of cash and escaped on two waiting off road bikes ridden by two other men.

They rode off in the direction of Himley.

One of the bikes was recovered later in the day and is currently undergoing forensic investigation.

The other bike and cash box have not been recovered.

The four offenders are believed to be white men, but all had their faces covered.
