The DOM is just making use of the P&M agreement:
Phase 3 – Transforming the way we work
Both parties are committed to introducing new ways of working throughout the
business by April 2008. In order to achieve this there will be a trial in four offices
per AGM area covering the following:
- New arrangements to cover for one another and develop sensible
options to absorb absences, and increased workload, where time exists
within normal hours
- To ensure all paid work hours are utilised
- To creates a working environment where employees, CWU reps and
managers feel valued and motivated.
This flexibility could also facilitate arrangements for employees to make their
own arrangements to cover and swap duties (subject to approval from their
manager) – within contracted hours, providing quality of service is not
adversely affected and there are no additional costs to the business.
Local ideas will be generated, agreed and deployed through trials by early
January 2008. The trials will be nationally evaluated to identify the widest range
of options for national roll out.
Local offices will be entitled to the 1.5% pay increase from 7 April 2008 subject
to deployment of these new arrangements. Any offices where deployment is
deferred will receive the additional 1.5% from the date of deployment
Streaming should never ever be done, why give rm the opportunity to use a charge of wilful delay? Once the mail leaves the inward MC on it's way to the DO, it becomes first class

Two hours pay.
Why pay someone 8hrs when you can get away with paying someone else 6hrs?
Of course there's always someone willing to go faster and undercut your 6hrs with his 5 hrs.
And then you reach 40 and your 6hrs maybe starts to take 7hrs and your "colleagues" start pointing and laughing and calling you a piss-taker and a slow coach....and the business starts moving you towards the door. :whistle
You're certainly not the sharpest of tools SexyLegs. :cuppa

I don't know if the original poster's legs are sexy. He/she has dug a hole so deep, all I can see is the top of the head and the sweat on the brow from all that rushing around to make time.

Most people have 2 speeds.
A fast one and a sustainable one.
Young and fit men can always do the job faster than the old and decrepit, :whistle but they cannot sustain that pace over their working life.

Absolutely, and those young runners who keep on about 'van sharing won't work because we all work at a different speed' don't think that in years to come they will be the older one, and that's apart from the fact that rushing home early won't be an option when Royal Mail are getting their full eight hours a day out of us all. :Very Happy

A new perspective on this. Not trying to defend a runner as I agree with working your time, but there is an element in the OP about really poor communication by managers. Sexy legs asks what do they what? Isn't it the managers job to inform people what exactly it is they want. I've only been in the job a few long months but I've been staggered how the manager/postie communication pans out. I've no idea what it is I should be doing to do my job brilliantly - what is it that makes a postie seen as a good employee by RM? It's almost like the piss poor words managers utter are deliberately vague so you cannot hold them to any of it. It appears from my short experience managers give posties such little foresight of their working month/week/day/hour that it's only posties goodwill that makes a large proportion of the deliveries happen everyday.

Ultimately though is there anything wrong in silently beasting a round once in a while? At my DO if you get back early and there are no managers there to notice anyway, so long as there's no regies to return to the cage and even then... Perhaps the mistake isn't running around this once, it's the asking permission and making ripples after the fact. Just get on with it and be stealthy about it, next day you're going to be 15 mins over in any case, or is that just me.

Sexy Legs, if you have childcare issues you need to put it in writing to get on the family friendly scheme, a verbal agreement is worth s**t, just because you tell them you need to finish early doesn't mean they have to agree to it, you need an agreement in writing. As I understand it the law now states that companies have to accomodate family friendly if they can. You need it in writing with your union and managers, just because I tell my manager I need to finish early on a saturday it doesn't give me the right to do so, if you know anything about RM you will know a managers word is worth s**t.

You should have called in with a domestic issue then, not sick, they have to give you special leave then, unpaid probably but as I understand it you can do about 3 of these a year.

If it doesn't matter if it's done in 6 or 8 hours, why call those who take 8 "slow" and "idiots" :no no

Before taking the piss out of others grammar, perhaps consider the lack of intelligence it takes to start name calling......remind anyone of the play ground ??

Putting to one side the comments and advice given to you by other posters on here for a moment and returning to your question – “What the hell do they want?”

What they want is for you to make up the 1:30minutes that they paid you for on Saturday that you have yet to work. We are paid by the hour, we are not on piece work.

I’m not really sure that I understand why this is upsetting you so much. You got what you wanted, and what was really important to you, with an early finish on Saturday so that you could look after your children. Surely, everything else pales into insignificance alongside this? Working off the ‘saved’ hour & a half is a cheap price to pay, certainly cheaper than taking an unpaid day's leave that you were willing to offer.

Give them back what you owe them and your problem is solved.

tank - I've reached 40, am still fit enough to get round when my kids need me and will do just that, and would do it again, and your replies on this thread highlight your intelligence level, still, amoebas are apparently entertaining, enjoy :left:
