That's the crux of it hampshire.
Too many "colleagues" think they are managers.
"He's slow".."She's dawdling"..."He's taking the piss".
It's pathetic really...as if we don't have enough crap coming our way from the "real" managers.
Here's a contraversal idea to throw into the fire...
Scrap the contract salaries and pay everyone by the minute! So if you want do a flyer, you finish early (good for you), but then more money is in the depot pot to pay those on killer walks that take longer (good for DOM)...
Heck, this approach might even encourage posties to use the assigned delivery methods correctly!

Nah wouldn't work because like everything in life there are people that would take advantage.
I'm happy to help somebody because they've been hammered BUT there are people in my office that would see that as a way to work slower wander along to the toilet for 15 minutes (Our loo's are always full with in a minute of the DOM calling everyone onto IPS!) get a coffee etc all in the knowledge that they'll be 'helped' to get out at the same time as everyone else thats worked normally.
Maybe this is an issue of walk fairness.... there are some walks in our office that are hammered day in day out where others get virtually nothing (the union reps walk takes the piss) but nobody least of all RM will do anything about it.

.
Pay by the minute agree on that one. And guess what most of the posties that are not ready to go out at their proper time are the smokers, we come off the sorting at 7 45 am till 8 20 am then break, yet once 7 45 comes there is a mad rush to go out smoking, no other company would put up with that, bring in the clocking in/off system they will think twice then before they go for their fag.

We already have enough piss takers in my office coming back late and booking OT on light days without doing this.

You've got my vote Trolley! RM must love PTers..After all they're only paid for what they do. No finishing 2 hours early and being paid for sitting at home! FFS it's no wonder RM are pissed off when they're expected to pay someone over a full days wages for sitting on their arse at home! At the same time the DIM is cracking down on any PT contracts, because that's the only savings he can see, and restricting PT Posties to 20..22.5...30 hours etc.
Like all Wage Slaves, he had two crosses to bear: The people he worked for and the people he worked with! (Stephen Vizinczey.)
Clocking in and out is far too 'modern' for this industry trying to modernise. A much better system is a pen and paper system which people can abuse daily with no comebacks. Also while were at it lets really modernise by doing away with paid breaks as people dont seem to take them anyway. You couildn't make it up. One day I'm gonna write a book about this job we call post. Ps don't the CWU HQ strongly oppose clocking in/out machines??????

Yes, it's probably to do with people finishing early not wanting to work their full hours.................and RM have a serious problem with not wanting people to return to the office to be able to sign out (probably to do with saving them time getting those back to the office).

Like all things in this company the majority of 'normal' postman would welcome it, yet the flyers and the pouching offers would hate it. Just shows again how out of touch HQ are with the feeling and aspirations of 'real' postman. What was the results from the 'Consulation of the century' anyone seen anything?

You mean you didn't get a phone call? Apparently they are going to ring the result through to various members in the hope they'll pass it on.
