DELIVERY DRIVER DISQUALIFIED

A Royal Mail delivery driver may have to consider early retirement after he was disqualified from driving for sixteen months.

The 61-year-old's lawyer told the court that although attempts would be made to find him a new job within the company, he might have to retire when he inevitably got a drink drive ban.

Kingsley Hamilton, of Honey Close in Dagenham, was caught over the limit when driving in Weston Street on August 21, after returning from a family get together following a bereavement.

Hamilton pleaded guilty to both a drink driving charge and driving whilst using a mobile phone, which led officers to stop him in the first instance.

The 61-year-old was hit in the pocket by the court, as well as getting banned, and he will have to pay £400 made up of fines, court costs and a victim surcharge.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

I don't know why people even do it these days, apart from losing your job (in most cases) you also have to re take your test  .

And a DR10 stays on your license for 11 years which means that even after the ban and resitting his test he has no chance of ever getting a driving job anywhere...and he'll need to mortgage his house to pay his insurance premiums if he can find a company that will touch him.
All in all probably one of the dumbest mistakes you could ever make.

Totally agree, I'm now that bad that I don't even have 1 drink if I'm going to be driving within 3/4 hours (let alone have a handful the night before going into work).

It actually amazes me how many posties get away with coming into work drunk from the night before. In my old office there were a handful who done it regularly. I certainly wouldn't have got into a van with them, thankfully I never had to. Questioned the manager on this when they originally spoke about P&L. The only option available was to grass your driver up if you suspected he was over the limit.

Old manager has even gone as far as take someone's car keys off them (on more than one occasion) because they were still reeling from the night before, amazes me that he still has a job.

Would certainly be interesting to see the police setting up a random breath test to catch some of these buggers. Down right dangerous.

I don't mean to sound righteous here, I know I've done it in the past (thank you ouzo!), where I've felt fine, went to work, had a cup of coffee and was sloshed again. Just think if you have a driving duty, then the booze the night before is a big no no! I've got to the stage in my life, where my license is far too important to me to risk it at all, won't even have a couple the night before if I need to drive early the next morning.

And all those still using mobile phones while driving - just as bad.

Presumably because he's been told that there might not be an alternative duty available. Don't forget: RM are trying to get rid of people at the moment.

Having said that: I've no sympathy for drunk drivers, people using Mobile Phones while driving, Speeders, or any other type of dangerous, irrisponsible drivers, for that matter.
