for delivering an increase of door to door in your conditioned hours

There are now people being paid £20 for NOT delivering ANY items.
People are getting £20 for delivering 6 x 700+ items and another person in the office delivering 1 x 370 items for the same £20
All this and no time to prep said items.

Nobody gets paid for d2d's now! :cuppa

Technicaly your correct, but just ask around ANY delivery Office what the £20 is for?
You'll get the same answer all over the country

You can thank the CWU for the £20,In the past I got around £16 for my 3x320 D2D, now I have every week 6x320 and get £20 less the £12 supl I used to get ,making a total £8 for the 6x320 D2D. nice deal NOT.I know there are winners and losers,we are losers in the TW/KT area.

Flying sam Royal Mail made a decison prior to the Business Transformation agreement that they would no longer pay a supplement for door to door when they believed traffic was falling and prep time and IPS would be reduced through automation.

They did not orginally want to give a supplement, their view was why should we continue to pay for a product which could be put in workload and delivered with the rest of the mail which they were already paying a basic wage. Royal Mail also made it clear that they were not going to continue turning away money because there was a cap in place limiting door to door to 3 items. On top of this the unit payment did not mantian any quality and the fines the busniess was getting from customers whos door to door did not get delivered was costing them dear and they had to pay comphensation to the customer including the printing of the items , any extra staff they employed for the door to door drop ie a call centre etc.

Now in terms of the early start allowance the reality is I doubt if many will still be on 0500 0r 05;30 following a walk sequencing revison or did you expect the CWU to fight that you mantain an early shift allowance but you dont ever start at that time ?

Now at the moment only 800 000 out of 28 million addresses get 6 door to door payments. So the union argued for all the money which was being payed in early shift and door to door to be trapped and payed to only delivery office staff. This meant that the CWU sercured the money in a permanent addition to basic pay.

Now you may have lost money on a weekly basis but have you lost it over the whole year. As door to door in the main was not delivered in the 2 christmas weeks and you would not have been paid for you annual leave and any sick or special leave you had. On top of this door to door does not remain static during a year sometimes people will get 3 , 4 ,5 or 2 or even 1 however the supplement gets paid every week.

On top of this you have to remember we did not have a rise in door to door since the early 90s , already the supplement has gone up with the pay rise and will go up with future pay rises.

Now in terms of the part time rate , well for part timers it had to be paid pro rata , if it was paid the same as a full timer then the part timer would be on a higher hourly rate than the full timer as the supplement is now a permanent addition to basic pay.

So I know its popular to have a go at the CWU but the union has to deal with an employer who does not accept that people can continue to be paid a unit payment for door to door and a payment for the early shift allowances when they no longer start at 0500 or 05:30.

The CWU has to deal with what the employer is intending to do and argue from that postion. Of course everyone loves the status quo but the employer who pay our wages was never going to continue with the product we had on door to door which stopped their plans for growth.

Dingo said - "Now we know at the moment only 600,000 addresses out of the nations 28 million addresses are getting 6 items per week. Now we also know that sadly Royal Mail's revenue is falling as a result of DSA and to varying degrees as a result of loss of traffic caused by the digital revolution. When you joined Royal Mail you signed a contract which said you would work an amount of hours for an amount of money and that you would deliver mail."

And then he said -"Now at the moment only 800 000 out of 28 million addresses get 6 door to door payments. So the union argued for all the money which was being payed in early shift and door to door to be trapped and payed to only delivery office staff. This meant that the CWU sercured the money in a permanent addition to basic pay."

Well that's an increase of 200,000 in the same post

No worries dingo but either figure you quoted is a drop in the ocean compared to the potential market. Do you think that RM is capitalising on that potential and doing enough to:

a. Ensure that the delivery of the D2D is being adhered to
b. The presentation at delivery offices is correct
c. The market is being targeted adequately

Royal Mail , I believe have the same internal fight over door to door between those who want to grow the operation in what is the worst recession in living memory, and those who still want to slash and burn and class door to door as another barrier to this.

Lots of managers have been charged and some dismissed for this.

In terms of presentation I have seemed some good examples of this and some bad. The way quality is measured is poor , managers can simply say on a conference call their door to door is clear and then its is accepted. However Royal Mail at national level believe door to door is around 90s quality and not the 99 % which some managers claim. I believe it may be even be worse than that.

I believe you're right; next time you visit a DO dingo take a look under the frames and at the entrance where the york of "excess" is held ready for despatch.

We've been here before haven't we?
Didn't part of the new D2D deal come about because managers were not managing it properly, certain areas where not doing them because of this.

Once again management are screwing it up for the rest of us.

Personally i don't give 2 f***s about stroppy posties moaning it has to be done,it's work for us and 'work' keeps us in jobs.
Are our reps not flagging this up regularly, are the CWU not getting stuck in and making noise.

There are so many in the market for this now,we f**k it up,we're f****d.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

There is so much sickness now and uncovered walks that the D2D's are not getting prepped into the frames. At least the managers are getting some exercise by throwing them into the skip every week :cuppa
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

I was about to say the same thing. They are desperate enough to get the mail out without the prepping of the D2D, totally ignoring the fact that those items too are now mail.

Like packets it's still seen by management as second in importance to addressed mail.
I've never understood why it's seen as acceptable to fail a first class packet but not a first or even second class letter.
Clear Office Policy was supposed to change that but it never did.
Some managers still think they are working in the 1990's.

Not just managers ft, a lot of postmen think it is still the 1990s  TBH there is a lack of organisation and that is rooted in bad management. There is no fallback, the staffing levels are kept, in the main, to level that is inconsistent with the workload. I believe you need to carry a little fat to maintain the system but obviously RM want to cut the workforce to the bone regardless of the level of service provided.
