Repeat of chaos fear over Royal Mail plan

Concerns have been raised that there will be a repeat of the Christmas postal chaos as Royal Mail announces its intention to modernise another sorting office.

When the post giant changed the systems in its Brinklow sorting office last autumn, MK NEWS received several complaints from readers.

We ran a number of stories in January with reports of mail being delayed, sometimes by weeks at a time, causing residents served by the office to miss important dates such as hospital appointments and in some cases letters and parcels did not turn up at all.

That prompted Steve Smart, Royal Mail delivery sector manager for Milton Keynes, to publically apologise in our pages.

But now the company has announced it will make some changes to the way it delivers mail at its Bletchley sorting office.

Vanessa McPake, former councillor and resident of Fenny Stratford, has voiced her worries about the changes after lobbying Royal Mail for improvement during the problems at Brinklow.

She said: “I m concerned this time round because I don’t think they have addressed some of the issues from last time.

“I worry for the residents that are served by the Bletchley sorting office that the same may happen to them."

The changes include post-men using new delivery methods with new equipment, and they have adopted revised delivery routes which are being introduced on a phased basis.

Sally Hopkins of Royal Mail said: “The operational changes we are making in Bletchley are part of the modernisation of Royal Mail. They are vital to place our business on a sound, stable and sustainable
footing for the future.

“We have written to all households in Bletchley to explain what these changes mean to them and if they have any further queries about our new way of working, they can contact us on 0845 601 1399.

“Customers can be assured that we have learnt lessons from the operational change introduced in Brinklow earlier in the year.

“Our local management team is closely monitoring the implementation of these changes in Bletchley to ensure we continue to provide a high quality of service to customers.

“We are pleased with how the changes to our operations in Bletchley are being implemented and all mail for delivery is being delivered to customers every day.”

We didn't have any changes/revisions in our office, it was the MC that couldn't cope and left us well and truly in the brown smelly stuff... Luckily for RM the snow helped cover up the complete farce and provided them with the perfect excuses to hide the incompetence.

Let us hope the snow stays away until Christmas Day, then everyone will know the truth of cost-cutting.

Is your DO in an area covered where 2 or more MCs have either been merged or moved into a new super-MC?

Yes ....... Oxford. Now OXON ( 12 delivery offices) get mail from Swindon which is over 30 miles away. In Oxford there are two delivery offices ( OX1 & OX2) and another office deal with ( OX3 and OX4). I understand that one office is gone loop van and troly system but other is still on old system and staff is enjoying finishing earlier and making couple of hours a day ( yes they do finish 2 hours earlier) ... they are on bicycles van and on their own cars.

Christmas at the Watford mail centre 2010 was indeed a complete and utter shambles,it took weeks to clear and get some sort of order back, this Christmas we will be in our new home....Home Counties North(Hemel) i expect nothing less than absolute chaos if the migration farce is anything to go by.
