I think that was a safeguard put in by RM to enable them to reduce the 3.5%,not increase it!

Personally I was never convinced that we would receive the 3.5% in the first place. With the poor performance in "modernising", the reluctance to part with the monies due for implementation, the lack of share money, the overarching cry of poverty, the union on board and complacent and privatisation on the horizon; does anyone seriously think that RM are going to shell out next year - if you do, ask the matron to increase your medication.

Don't worry RM management will cancel the pay rise in favour of a brand new incentive scheme, as they feel the phantom shares scheme worked out perfectly! :cuppa
Union what Union? Do we have a union?

Is it going to be meekly surrendered as like colleague shares & transformation payments.

Is it worth insisting on & making stand on or not for HQ AND MEMBERS.

I'd rather have the £1400 in my hand than future "pay deal" !

I'd not go for anything longer than a 3 month pay deal. Any sucker who settles for 6% over 3 years will end up with egg on their face when inflation hits 75%

I'm with you on that B - three year deals may be OK for Mystic Meg but we've ended up with FA over this last deal by some mugs thinking they can predict the future.

I think that the CWU & RM hired Brian Connolly's character "SEPTIC PEGG" to predict the resounding success of the BT2010 deal and how it would be welcomed by all who work for RM.

dingo wrote:Yes it is , however what is not account for are the following : no repayment to the pension deficit after next march and no repayment of the commercial loan to the Govenment . Unless the EU grant European State Aid the government cannot take on the pension deficit and Royal Mail cannot fund the deficit past March 2011. The new business plan starts with a zero balance sheet which is why the colleague share con took place, Royal Mail cannot ask the government to write off the commercial loan on the basis the government is a basket case and then still pay out millions in colleague share payments which valued Royal Mail at a price which would have not helped Royal Mail's plans.

The Pay Rise I think will take place the more worrying thing is if the EU do not grant European state aid and allow the government to take on the pension deficit then we are all in a lot worse trouble than we have ever been. The trustees will step in and we may well end up with European Union rescue aid which allows them to break up the company , sell off parts of it and close the pension scheme.

We are all in untravelled waters !
Our right wing authoritarian Government's goal is to provoke the EU into cancelling state aid and replacing it with rescue aid so that they don't have to pay us our pensions and they get their hands on the £26bn worth of assets in our pension fund. Their right wing authoritarian friends in RMG have helped them to do this by making the books suddenly reveal a £1.7bn debt. This has given the Government a convenient excuse to come in with a financial restructuring plan and it is this plan that has triggered the EU investigation into whether state aid is appropriate. If the Government hadn't 'had' to respond to this sudden news that RMG were in a much worse financial position than anyone realised by injecting an extra £1billion into RMG, state aid would probably have been a formality.
