The last time we were able to routinely leave mailsort on Saturday was about 5-6 years ago, anyone in our D.O. leaving mailsort on a saturday would without question be charged with willful delay.
Can't believe there are still some offices doing it, just another example of the random and extremely variable approach towards job practices in this joke of an organisation.

Re: Mailsort
Why leave it till the Monday? If whoever is sending the mailsort decides to send it DSA, then you'll have no choice but to deliver it and RM gets less money for it. In any case once any item of mail leaves the inward MC then it's first class. There doesn't seem to be very much mailsort anyway now, most of what I would see pass through a couple of years ago as mailsort now passes through as DSA. Even the stuff from the channel islands, a lot of that now is DSA as well!

Re: Mailsort
The reason MS was okayed to be left on a Sat was when SDD came in,it is a national agreement. 'Shorter Saturday'
That also did not change during P&M.
If any of you are/were being forced to take it then you have been had over.
BT2010 revisions now change that, but only after a revision.'Saturday normal working day'

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Mailsort
It was never a definite that Mailsort wouldn't go on a Saturday it was more of an enabler to produce a shorter working day.
In it's heyday though there was shitloads of the stuff so how you could manage to take it all and still have a significantly shorter day is beyond me.
e) Saturday attendances will be significantly shorter than weekday attendances. To assist this Mailsort 3 need not be scheduled for delivery and missort runs should be rescheduled to enable an earlier start on town residential delivery routes.

Re: Mailsort
Pretty much agree with everything thats been said here....
When I first started MS on a Saturday was a significant percentage of the Saturday workload and you'd see mech bundles of the stuff on top of people's frames. Ever since DSA was introduced MS has pretty much disappeared to the point where on a Saturday I'd be unlucky to get more than 1/2 inch of the stuff. Thing that has ALWAYS confused me is why or how have the DSA people managed to persuade companies to change from MS to DSA in terms of cost. All the DSA is categorised as 'first class' which is surely MORE expensive than spending it as MS yet MS has practically disappeared. Am I to believe that all these companies have decided to spend MORE on their postage costs?
As I said I'm happy to work my hours and if MS can be taken out on a Saturday within time then fair enough.... asking the my manager about it he reckons if its heavy then MS can be left behind BUT as we all know what a postie see's as heavy isn't what a manager does. So if Saturday is one of the heaviest days of the week and Monday the lightest it seems crazy me to add more work to the Saturday where you have 2 hours less duty time to complete.
I know that many people will see postie's calling managers useless etc as all part of 'the game'.... but I have to totally agree that until RM sort out its management at least at DO level then RM is going to struggle big time. How do you get this through to senior management??? I've seen 2 decent managers apply and get EVR coz they've had enough yet I can see 3 managers (1 of whom is TOTALLY useless and a disgrace who's got where they are by being promoted just to get rid of them) that just aren't up to it being offered jobs. RM has a unique opportunity to sort things out and yet again there screwing it up :(
As I said not looking forward to the months ahead!
