Portsmouth Mail Centre

Post by Pompey Boy »

Hmm....lots going on here at the moment - RM seem to be spending money on the building for a change. Anyone know why and does this mean we're safe at the moment. Also what's happening to mailsort - where's it going?
How much worse can it get? A LOT F****** WORSE !!!

Four CSS machines being installed October/November time....doesn't sound like it's being closed. Don't see why it would be done up for sale as the old RLB next door still hasn't been sold after ten years of trying.

Four/five years then a super PO+SO MC on the M27 is the latest.

CSS machines doesn't guarantee that it'll stay open as a MC, they could move a load of smaller DOs into the building. The CSS machines aren't "permanently wired in" they connect to the mains via a 415 volt (probably 3-phase) plug and socket and the data cable is just a normal Ethernet cable, they could easily be moved in or out any office fairly quick

Last i heard PO mailsort/streamline is to be trialed at SOMC,and if management are happy with the trial, would become a permanent thing.

I think the plan is to turn it into a Super DO. Trouble is theres topfloor space which you cant do alot with. Which is under-utilised.

What about sticking some CSS machines there if they'll fit?

Seems like the South Coast gloom and doom merchants may be a little out with thier predictions.
PO is now on the list for some iLSMs....which won't be good news for SO with it's out-dated and poorly performing IMPS though.

Bet they're quaking in their boots.....until RM know where they stand with the EU bailout i expect the south coast issues will stay as they are for all 3 MC's.
iLSM's and in fact all mech kit can be put in and taken out over a weekend(as you well know),so where machinery is located is in no way an indication of a mailcentre's safety OR demise....

How come the entire Early shift has been moved out of the mail centre permanently? why not the late shift? Are the new machines going into the dis-used upper floors?
