A YOB who threatened a postman with a stick and a snooker ball in a sock over junk letters in his mail was jailed for six months yesterday.
Alcoholic David Forrest, 35, who admitted two charges of having an offensive weapon, threatened to beat up postie Sean Fanus.
Jailing Forrest, of Manor Park, East London, Judge John Lafferty said at Snaresbrook crown court: “Junk mail is not the responsibility of postmen.”

I wonder how he pronounces it.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

In our group huddle yesterday morning, we were told not to engage in arguments with the public.......we are to walk away and not say a word. I don't know if just turning your back on them and ignoring them will make matters worse. I think a bit of empathy normally works but looks like thats against the rules. This is caused by P & L, people getting their mail late or days late is really pissing them off.

Well said lads. So much s**t from our great british public, day after day. Last time I had some hassle walked away, but then got zero support from management. Now I give as good as I get with the verbals and if any one tries anything on now my VERY big bunch of collection keys will come in VERY handyPat Ostman wrote:here hereDGP1 wrote:I can't help myself, if someone starts on my then I'm going to respond and the more in my face they get the more aggressive I'll become...........it's just the way I am.Stormproof wrote:In our group huddle yesterday morning, we were told not to engage in arguments with the public.......we are to walk away and not say a word. What a load of bullocks from the manager. Like most things in life you cannot make blankets statements from behind a desk in the DO. As stormproof says it might make things worse, if might make them better. It might be a drunk kicking off, or even on some of these estates it might be someone trying on to see it they can intimidate you.DGP1 wrote:I can't help myself, if someone starts on my then I'm going to respond and the more in my face they get the more aggressive I'll become...........it's just the way I am.Stormproof wrote:In our group huddle yesterday morning, we were told not to engage in arguments with the public.......we are to walk away and not say a word. You have to read each situation seperately and in the context of the area, person and background, then decide to either walk away, respond in kind, or calling the police. But don't ever deck them, thats a short way to prison and the job centre.

TrueBlueTerrier,
Even may it might not seem like it at times posties come under UK law like everyone else. That means we have the right to defend ourselves if we are attacked or think we might be attacked. I know that RM will always see the side of the public and not the postie, but I would use force if attacked or under threat, just as I would in a non-work situation. If I wasn't charged by the Police why should I lose my job, or perhaps we should all give up and go home
