If you transfer from DO to DO I think you keep your seniority. This has been the complaint in our office transferee's taking the rounds over the people that have been in the office for ages and cant get a dedicated round.

ChainsawKiller wrote:Hi, wondered if someone here could help me. I asked to be transfered to a different part of Royal Mail recently and was told I needed to ring the different places and ask if they had positions. So I did but every DO I contacted told me I only needed to get a transfer form. I asked for this nearly a fortnight ago and still heard nothing. Does anyone know the process or where I can get a form from?
Chainsawkiller, the first thing you need to do is see your DOM and tell him the reason for your transfer and get a transfer form.

If he doesn't get you a form within a week see your union rep and tell them you want to take out a grievance against the DOM.

When you get the transfer form you should contact preferably by visiting the office(S) you wish to transfer to and find out if there are or likely to be any vacancies and the name and number of the recruitment adviser at Chesterfield(RM recruitment centre)for the office you would like to go to.

You then need to fill in the transfer form and hand it to your DOM who should sign it off and send it by special delivery to Chesterfield.

Contact Chesterfield and confirm it has arrived, once it has you will be placed on the waiting list.

When a vacancy arises Chesterfield will contact you to offer you the position and arrange for you to have a telephone/in person interview.

If you are accepted you must inform your DOM and get Chesterfield to e-mail him that you have 28 days to accept the position and you need a release date.

Again if they mess you about go to your union rep who will then be able to speed up the process.

NOTE you cannot transfer if you have any live warnings for attendance or conduct until they have cleared,ie 1 year from the date of issue.

Hope this helps.

I recently transferred and kept my seniority, however I have known a guy in the past who transferred up North and was told he would need to start again as a casual.
So I guess it depends whether the DOM at the office you are going to will accept you on a transfer,or if he insists you start afresh.
However you will know this before you transfer so it will be up to you to decide.

This has been agreed with the union and RM.If you take too much sick time they punish you by not letting you move.

Another way to punish you is to get you on a stage through any little conduct issue they can find to stop you from moving.

It all smacks of serfdom where the RM manager says you can only work for him and no one else.

However you will know this before you transfer so it will be up to you to decide.
Since the 'Way Forward' Agreement you do keep your seniority on transfer:

"SENIORITY

13.7 Because seniority is based on length of service there will be no need to adjust seniority when
employees transfer between offices, whether on a voluntary or compulsory basis."

This has been the case since March 2000.
Even if your mate transferred before then he should get his seniority back:

"13.8 .......Similarly, in all cases where seniority has been removed in the past, for whatever reason,
individuals will return to the seniority to which they are entitled based on their actual length of service."

I think a persons record is a perfectly valid reason for refusing a transfer by a Manager.

An unscrupulous Manager at one office might "suggest" it be in a persons interest to "migrate" to another office rather than face a stage warning for whatever. Thereby moving his problem to someone else - if I was a Manager I would be certain sure to be checking very closely anyones transfer request.
