This is the 10th year of the Flamstead Scarecrow Festival.
Started in 2002 as a means of raising money for the upkeep of the Village Church and the Herts Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre the festival has gone from strength to strength. Every year so far there have been over 90 scarecrows on display and many people now look forward to the annual event. The last few years over 5000 people have visited the village each year. The festival has raised over £56,000 for various charities.
This years charities are HMSTC - Hertfordshire Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre and FOSL - Friends of St leonard's, the local parish church.
The event is run by volunteers and is aimed at being a family fun day out. All of the scarecrows are produced by the local residents. Each year they try to better the previous years scarecrows.
The weekend is accompanied with Morris Men, Magic Shows, Punch and Judy Shows and Big bands.
The scarecrows will be on display and voting forms will be available from mid day on Friday the 19th August 2011.
