Re: union WHERE ARE YOU ?
CWU are saying and doing plenty, whether of not that contains what mbrs are most interested in is the question. As a local rep I'm the first to want more info on national level talks with RML. Is there enough info and reports coming back from those talks is the 64 million dollar question.
E and T department released a LTB today which as a rep I found interesting informative and definitely necessary, however I doubt it is very interesting to rank and file mbrs in RML.

Re: union WHERE ARE YOU ?
That's the problem Daz...the union is in danger of disappearing up it's own backside, more content to serve the institution of the union, rather than it's whole reason for existence....the membership.Big Daz wrote: E and T department released a LTB today which as a rep I found interesting informative and definitely necessary, however I doubt it is very interesting to rank and file mbrs in RML.

Re: union WHERE ARE YOU ?
I wonder if we could have a poll on here to see who and how many actually got a phone call - I didn't get one, unless the wife answered the phone and the bloke put the phone down on her - she would be berating him for totally unrelated issues like fuel prices, the price of meat etc.fishtank wrote:What happened to the "biggest consultation ever"?

Re: union WHERE ARE YOU ?
It is reasonable for any member to ask what is happening and why the union is quiet. However I think it would be fair to say that had this question been asked a couple of months ago then it would have been spot on and understandable. The CWU had been too quiet.
However since then we have a had a letter to home adresses , we have had a joint statement asking branch"s to copy to members. We have had a update of those talks via an LTB . Bob Gibson has put out revision advice , there has been information supplied on world class mails , PSP , Network 2011 , there has been an update on pensions , european state aid and there will be a pension briefing where decisons and policies will be endorsed in October. This is the first policy briefing under the new system where polices will be voted on at a briefing and not just at conference. Equally there was an important LTB on the seperation of POL and Royal Mail which came out on Thursday.
August is normally a quiet month because of the leave period , however hopefully there will be a further update once the talks resume. So I agree we need to increase the amount of information given to members. However not every comm can be sent to members home addresses and therefore Branch"s should ensure the comms arrive at the units and the unit rep should ensure that the comms go on the notice board and that they hold meetings to keep their members updated.

Re: union WHERE ARE YOU ?
Is it reasonable to ask what happened to the members consultation, as opposed to a phone poll?
Is it reasonable to ask how many were polled, in what areas and the questions asked?
Is it reasonable to ask what the result of the poll was, by whom was the poll taken and what action will be taken on the result?
And as the rep doesn't know the answer to any of those questions who is going to provide the information?
Information provided is fine but not if it isn't the information you want.

The phone consultation as I understand was/is just the initial stage of the consultation, there are face to face meetings to follow. The Voice and a LTB will have the consultation plan.

Re: union WHERE ARE YOU ?
A national consultation may be OK in theory, but I would like to see one Branch by Branch and the results of them, also Branch by Branch). We know what the national officers agree,(and our reactions to them!). What will our reactions be to what Branches are doing,(or not doing!). For example a Branch could be asked "Have all your DO's/MC's have reps?". Wonder what the solution to that question will be!
If Branches are failing on a number of points we would have to re-consider a direct approach in which what is agreed is communicated immediately as a result of immediate ratification by the membership. That is also the biggest failing in my opinion. There are so many questions on what was agreed nationally. The area and divisional reps know the answers, but they are not getting communicated to the membership. Why?

Re: union WHERE ARE YOU ?
POL workers' arses are owned by RMG at the moment. We will be transferred to POL after separation and TUPE will apply. TUPE allows our new employer to change our terms and conditions if they can twist the reason to be "economic, technical or organisational":dingo wrote: Equally there was an important LTB on the seperation of POL and Royal Mail which came out on Thursday.
"(5) Paragraph (4) shall not prevent the employer and his employee, whose contract of employment is, or will be, transferred by paragraph (1), from agreeing a variation of that contract if the sole or principal reason for the variation is—
(a)a reason connected with the transfer that is an economic, technical or organisational reason entailing changes in the workforce; or
(b)a reason unconnected with the transfer."
http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2006 ... ion/4/made" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
TUPE also states that only one representative has to be informed of any proposed contract changes. There is no law that forces that representative to pass this information on to every employee affected or to consult with these employees. Furey has a track record of agreeing to changes and not informing members. Madden has been unable to hold Furey to account because he behaves like Furey's subordinate.
Given that management will be looking at this separation to see what it can get away with in a TUPE transfer so that it sets a precedent for the later privatisation of Royal Mail, will the Union commit to releasing any proposals made by management as soon as Furey receives them?
It seems perverse that HQ are happy to keep members in the dark while they seek advise from professional policy advisors when it has been shown that there is more expertise amongst the membership.
