drb wrote:This what is being discussed at the moment :

“Furthermore the new business plan is based on the following and Royal Mail believe that without this the company will fail.

1. Delivering the BTA agreement with changes
2, Restructuring on centre office reorganisation.
3. New products and new services.

The New Business plan requires the Government to write of the commercial loan , that the Government gets European state aid and takes on the pension deficit and does not budget for any more pension deficit payments after March 2012 and is based on by 2015/16 that Royal Mail are achieving a profit margin of 6.6% rather than the current profit margin of 1.4 %. Of course it has to keep EPS.

Now on the second bullet point they will open their book to the union to look at colleague share and pensions to assist in finding a way forward.

Thirdly there will be talks on the BTA agreement which should be the thing which does not need long and drawn out talks. Royal Mail`s initial thoughts on delivery is that they now want to shift the focus on indoor revisions rather than outdoor revisions. Their rationale is that providing you get the walks out on time they will finish. Royal Mail want to set up a national team of 20 planners who would work in offices in addition to the local planners. Royal Mail are also accepting that attendance calls are not accurate and do not take into account the growth in packets and oversized packets. New revision process is also up for discussion. Equally the amount of Door to Door is reducing the Swindon walk bundling centre was handling 14 to 15 million items per week and was expected to grow but has now dropped to just over 5 million.

Over the last couple of days the PEC and Divisional Reps have discussed the problems with the BTA agreement and the solutions. Further consultations will take place with Branch`s and members and the idea is that there will be an improved agreement in place”.

The revision process is complicated and the lump sum trigger points are not being adhered to as revisions are not producing savings.

"union to look at colleague share " - I don't think postman want another worthless collegue share, we got stitched up by rm over this. Next agreement and round of talks £2000 for the next changes. With no scope for negiotiating.(sorry about spelling).

So, if the BT2010 Agreement with changes is in effect a new agreement, will this be put to the membership for ratification?

More simplified and lump sum payment transparent. In terms of lump sums and colleague share that is the BIGGEST question I get asked. Where is my money? Where is my lump sum? Where is my £1000.
Well colleague shares where created by a second hand car salesman now gone to Canada. They never existed. The correct term for them where "phantom shares". Its the profit that worries me in terms of monies available for basic pay increases. I always advise against lump sum payments as the employer wants something in return,a bit like 2007,(£400), that's right! Absorption's!!!

Hence the "Where is the profit/money gone?"question. The accounts are being scrutinised as we speak. We will find that bonuses etc where spent,(that's why they did not want us to see the accounts) . There will be expenditure for an ex-chief executive(2.5 million) for starters.... I wonder what else....the plot thickens!

Not interested in the money.
Not interested in "improved" BT2010/11.
Couldn't care less where the money has/hasn't gone.
Want to know why we can't get management to stick to this deal/last deal/deal before that.
Why it's OK to leave offices to rot cause they aren't "strong" enough...some union philosophy that.
Want to know why s**t reps get away with being s**t reps,s**t Branches,s**t Areas etc.
Want to know why this union is too scared to hold Royal Mail to account over management bullying.
Want to know why we are always the last to know....anything. :cuppa

I think having discussed this with other unions,(and having read the recent Business School of "The State Of The Unions Today" study),there lies a common problem.

One: We are putting more funds into recognised business rather then the difficult ones
Two: We are tending to use conciliation more these days,(is this because of our draconian trade union laws I wonder?)
Three: The fact remains that not many national agreements are being produced bar the CWU in which has about 4 since 2007,(by far more then all of them).
Four: Are we communicating via the branches and do they work? With a trade union so rich in every policy under the sun,are the branches supporting the poor sod of a unit rep? Or are we lavishing in a sea of complacency? Do we feel as a trade union we have done enough?
Five: Is the layer upon layer,(Unit>Area>divisional) necessary? Perhaps committee's doing away with all the "2 day communication" or "Joint meetings".
Six: What do the membership actually want?

They want to be able to go to work without feeling like they are going to war.
They pay their subs...it's protection money...they aren't being protected.
Not interested in the arseholes who cut the job up...they can fry.
I'm interested in the decent hard-working members trying to do the job right and getting targeted for their trouble.

Perhaps those that could stop the hassle from managers are far far away. Perhaps a meeting about it...in 10 days time! Grrr!

More than anything I would like to know why everything always takes so long - more than a year down the line and the agreement is in tatters. If the union had listened instead of bulldozing the agreement through we may have ended up with more realistic targets.

The unit rep,(the most important by the way) is waaay waay down the food chain to divisional,(or some anyway). Perhaps one policy adviser per office/MC, and the unit rep direct. Three offices per region with each region meeting once per week and strictly co-ordinate with the other 3 offices per area. Committe's within each office. Bang goes someone's "gravy train"!

The deal makes sense and in a way quite modern. Is our trade union modern /robust enough to enforce it?

No...and we knew that before the deal was ratified because of previous with SDD,P&M2007 and the "interim" agreement..so the deal didn't make sense.
It relied on Royal Mail playing ball...a bit like giving an alcoholic a job in an off license. :cuppa

In my opinion perhaps we shouldn't wait for an "instruction" so to speak. Do what we think is right,as it appears we know the agreements.
