A RAIDER has been jailed for six years for trying to hold up a post office with a paint scraper.

Nicolas Bates, 22, threatened a cashier, who thought the tool was an axe, and demanded cash.

He panicked and fled empty-handed but police found him a mile away.


Coventry crown court heard Bates, who is from the city, admitted trying to rob the branch in Canley.

Police said: “A scraper is an odd choice of weapon but it was a large, heavy-duty implement.”
