COMPLAINTS about delayed, inconsistent and incorrect deliveries by the Royal Mail have been flooding into the Echo.

Ricky Eidam, a retired engineer from Alphington, Exeter, said he used to receive post every day but since Royal Mail made changes to the service, he has been getting post just two days a week.

he Royal Mail introduced new delivery methods and adopted revised delivery routes as part of nationwide changes to the postal system in June.

The 65-year-old said: "It's never on a regular basis. Before, it used to come between 9am and 10am, now it's much later – around 2.30pm – less frequent, and mistakes are being made.

"I received a DVD through my door addressed to the house two doors away from me. If I was a dishonest person, it would never have got to its owner.

"The Royal Mail has taken a backward step. It's disgraceful service, for the price we're paying to send things. The company ought to reconsider."

A 44-year-old man from Heavitree, Exeter, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "The service is awful, and sporadic.

"My mum sent me a cheque for my birthday nine days ago and it hasn't come. She hadn't heard from me and thought I was being ungrateful.

"Also, it has taken three days for first-class post to get across Exeter and that's not good."

Phyllis Tarling, 83, from St Thomas, Exeter, said: "The postman used to come in the morning but now it's 3.30pm.

"I'm not happy at all. The mail should do something about it."

A 67-year-old woman from Exeter who did not want to give her name, said: "I didn't get anything for a week and then got 10 letters in one day.

"I've been waiting over a week for a letter from my insurance company.

"I live in a cul-de-sac with a dozen houses and one postman delivers to four of them and another postman does the rest, sometimes at the same time. It's ridiculous.

"The service used to be brilliant and it has gone down the drain."

A Royal Mail spokesman told the Echo: "There has been some disruption to the service while postmen and local managers make final adjustments to the changes.

"We are working to resolve the issues as a matter of priority. We apologise to any customer who has experienced disruption to their service."

If I remember back to our IA, we said this would happen :hmmmm and all the papers would say was it was about money (tbh an awful lot of that has to do with the CWU leadership and their useless PR).
