Crowborough dog owner pleads with postmen not to ignore warning

BARBARA Bradley's beloved dogs may look harmless enough, but she fears they will be killed because postmen are defying her pleas not to deliver her post.
The 61-year-old from Crowborough has an agreement with the Post Office whereby she collects her mail herself each day. She says that is much better than risking her two fluffy Bedlington terriers lashing out at Royal Mail staff.
So she is angry that some postmen are ignoring the warning signs to deliver her post anyway.
Mrs Bradley said: "They're putting my lovely dogs at risk. If they bite someone they'll have to be put down.
"I collect my mail from the sorting office in Crowborough and there's a big notice up on my gate, but they keep coming."
Mrs Bradley set up her unusual arrangement with the Post Office more than two years ago to protect staff from Tilly and Toby.
The Post Office even provided her with a plastic A4-sized sign to hang on the garden gate in Bracken Close, Jarvis Brook.
She said: "Everybody comments on it. It's there to keep my dogs safe."
One postman had a lucky escape on Thursday.
Mrs Bradley went to collect her mail as usual at 9.30am and was told she had no post that day. So she said she was shocked when, five hours later, a postman in a fluorescent jacket arrived.
"It was a different postman from the one who normally comes but the sign is clear enough," she said. "The dogs rushed out and he was lucky they didn't bite him.
"I heard about a man in Scotland who lost his hand and if that happened here I know the authorities would put my dogs down.
"I've done all I can, but if the postmen refuse to read the sign then what's the point?"
Mrs Bradley has had her dogs for four years. She said: "Tilly is the really angry one. I got her from a rescue centre and she was always aggressive.
"She's been in rehab and the regular postman will stroke her now. Both dogs are fine with the neighbours – but she's just never liked yellow coats."
The Royal Mail said: "We are fully aware of our customer's request. Instructions in this instance were overlooked by a relief delivery officer who has been reminded of the arrangements."

Does anyone think this is a lapsed duty
But of course some people don't bother to read mail retentions, re-directions, keepsafes let alone do them

Well just don't dress her in one. Simple.

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Another problem associated with the "Delivery Only Duty". Part Timer walks in picks up his first bag and goes out on delivery! If you're moved about a lot you've no idea what houses have dogs etc. I've always said there should be a simple short and concise "idiots guide" on each frame that a Reserve Postie can read before leaving. Non of this "You should have read the walk log before you went out" Bullshit! Yeah right I'm really going to wade through that big red folder full of irrelevant crap.DGP1 wrote:Does anyone think this is a lapsed duty![]()

Talking of Tilly....I wonder how her and Peter are getting on
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

I often wonder how these things get in the news.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

when i throw a walk in for a new start/PT'er
I will turn and write on a letter any notes they need
eg check for dog, entry codes, dodgy flat is behind X number etc
no point telling them as they will never remember on a duty they dont know
however as is the way
many folks see a roughly thrown up walk as 'good enough'

Re: Crowborough dog owner pleads with postmen not to ignore
I wish more people would prep a duty the way they'd prep their own. It would make life a lot easier for a lot of people, and that's got nothing to do with Management.

I do that as well, though I go one stage further - I always include the first 2 or 3 houses for the next street at the back end of the bundle - this helps guide them round if they have never done the duty before.Dorset Plodder wrote:Good Idea Custard. Problem with many of the people who are prepping these "Delivery Only" duties is they just don't give a s**t! I still number bundles, just out of habit, experienced reserves often ask why I bother they know the walk. But I was told what happens if you injure yourself and a Reserve turns up from another Office?.
I also use "D" to highlight potential dog problems.
