Kate Middleton's postman sacked for lateness, sparking angry protest by villagers

The village postman who attended the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton has been sacked.
Ryan Naylor rubbed shoulders with royalty, celebrities and world leaders at Westminster Abbey in May.
But after 18 years on his rounds in Bucklebury, Berks, including delivering post to the couple, he has now been fired by Royal Mail.
It claimed he was consistently late in emptying pillar boxes and taking the post back to his depot.
But villagers want him reinstated and might petition Wills and Kate to intervene.
One said: “It really is appalling. He was late now and again because he would stop for a chat.”
A colleague said: “He wasn’t following the rules but it was hardly a big deal.”
Mr Naylor, who may appeal, said: “I’m not talking about anything.”
Royal Mail said: “It is serious. Post appears to have been willfully delayed.”

To be fair - if you are on collections you know you have to empty the boxes during a given window.
Failure to do that is a serious issue.
If he returns to the DO late and the mail misses the connection to the MC - it is a serious issue.
Constantly being late so you can natter to customers isn't too bright.

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Why was he sacked?
Why wasn't he simply taken off collections and moved to another role?
There is more to this i think.

Must be close to retirement and could be entitled to a good deal, so lateness is a excuse to save some cash. If this is the case then RM are clearly scum of the earth and our "Wonderful" union should earn their money to get his job back.
No wonder he was late now and again if Pippa Middleton was walking by

In that case every senor manager who works for RM should be sacked for willful delay as they do it in any DO/ any DO's that have had a revision with new delivery methods, ask anyone who lives in areas that have now got a rubbish delivery pattern.

Bucklebury royal wedding postman to appeal dismissal
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-berkshire-14505688" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
A Berkshire postman who was invited to the royal wedding by the Middleton family has been dismissed from his job.
A petition called Saving Postman Ryan has started near Bucklebury, where Ryan Naylor worked, to get him re-instated following the decision by Royal Mail.
A Royal Mail spokesman said a postman had been dismissed after a quantity of mail appeared to have been "wilfully delayed".
The Communication Workers Union (CWU) said it would appeal the decision.
'Good postman'
John Haley, the landlord of the Old Boot Inn in Stanford Dingley, near Bucklebury, has collected 50 signatures on the petition.
Mr Haley was also invited to the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge due to his connections to the Middleton family.
He said: "He's a very, very good postman, dedicated to the community. He loved everyone. He used to be a bit slow but nobody worried about that.
"He's been a postman for many, many years."
In a statement, Royal Mail said: "It is a serious offence to tamper with or delay the delivery of mail.
"We have a zero tolerance policy in this regard."
A spokesman for the CWU said he did not want to comment on the dismissal other than to confirm Mr Naylor would be appealing the decision.
He said the petition could be used to support his case to be re-instated, as an indication of good character.

"John Haley, the landlord of the Old Boot Inn in Stanford Dingley, near Bucklebury, has collected 50 signatures on the petition." - that's 24% of the population of Stinford Dangley
so the other 76% can't be too sure about him being a "very, very good postman"
And if Kate M was all that concerned she would surely have got her grandmother-in-law to intervene, what with ROYAL Mail being hers until its sold off.

This is most bizzare and im sure that there has to be more to it. did he fail the dispatches? im sure the managers should/would have have tried other avenues such as couselling before heading down this road. In our office we have plenty of overzellous brown nosing managers eager to score brownie points with their DOMs and DSMs but dismissal for lateness seems pretty lame!
Yet managers do fail mail on a regular basis. in our office lack of staff has caused collections to fail with the a/scm falsely claiming adverse weather. another scm failing SDs because his management style was office based and out of the way and forgot to send them! On derliveries mail gets failed on postpersons walk so they can accomodate the "summer lapsing" (which was executive action by a DOM) the left mail gets delivered the following day while another part of the delivery gets left. in turn this at times has resulted in customers getting an every other day service. AND do not get me started on packets! As i understand it, there is no USO for packets which, is an open invitation for them to be hidden away and forgetten about until an audit when theyre put on the back of a van and taken for a ride in a vehicle out the way
wilful delay? HA! Kettle, pot and black!

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

That's correct but I haven't a clue either as to what constitutes a USO packet
