Mail Centre Future (GL)

anybody know about Moya Greene announcing today more of the business plan for 2011 and hence more mail centre closures being lined up?

Been postponed for now due to Royal Mail only targeting gloucester Mail Centre and not the whole operational area e.g. Southwest or Theames Valley. RM are not allowed to target just mail centres due to the 2010 agreement with the CWU.

Heard on the grapevine that a meeting was scheduled for Thursday to be attended by staff, CWU and RM - Local union officials then advised not to attend as contents of meeting not agreed nationally with CWU! Meeting then cancelled altogether. Rumour is that Gloucester will become a DO just like Derby.

A gaffer was talking in our office that GL is safe for at least 3 years because lots of new machines in Swindon and they fail every day and Bristol .... not ready to gobble GL yet !! but as the stamps mail is rock bottom now a days than who knows ?
30 odd staff travel to Swindon from Oxford and they are just fed up with traveling ... 70 miles return ... every day weeks and ends and now their petrol ( traveling allowance is going to stop ) ... expensive fuel ... no week days overtime in Swindon for Oxford staff ( Sundays only ) they do not like it ... now they wish stayed in Oxford on delivery or driving side.

Any MC can be put under a 90 day review, it doesn't have to be done by region/area. An example is Southend, announced last year but the rest of the Anglia region has yet to be reviewed.

Yes any mail can be put under a 90 day review but RM can not shut that MC just on its own, they have to do the region the MC is located
