CSS machines - inputting the figures

Post by BettySwollocks »

Lo all,

We've just been informed that very soon, we will be given the task of having to input our daily figures (i presume amounts of letters sequenced, walksorted, rejects , times started and finished etc into our managers pc)
upto now, our manager has ALWAYS done this, but were told its a regular part of a days work for CSS operators nationwide, so we would have to do it :confused

Is it a part of the workload for machine operators ? if it is, then fair enough !
i've no idea how long it would take to do as i've never done it, when we are busy (or even average), sometimes we are going close to our time, or over.

But thing is, of the 5 night staff we have, only 3 are savvy enough with computers (the other 2 are clampits),
one in particular throws his toys out of the pram if u insist he uses the computer to print off the labels (he had a bit of a wobbler at 1 of the guys, who told him to do it),
the other clampit, i doubt he could toast bread without help,

Thanks in advance,

In my office the 'team leader' inputs the figures. He (and the chap who covers his days off) gets the leadership allowance and this has always been part of his duty, which also gets them out of doing the TPM.

Thanks for the response, but seeing as how no-one is (or ever has) been paid leadership allowance despite numerate complaints,
i can't see anyone willing to do this, none of us are willing to take on any supervisory role because of it,
including when we had some fella supervising us follow safe operating procedures (he asked who the leader was, got told there wasn't any)

is that just in your office, or do u know if it's done over a larger area ?

Something like that would need at least a bare minimum of training.
If it was part of the original job spec of the CSS operator it would have been included in the 3 days of core training and covered in the 4 weeks of coaching.
If it wasn't...it isn't.

There is a copy of the Job Spec and the Training Schedule in the National Automation Sortation Deployment Guidelines. http://www.cwu.org/assets/_files/docume ... loymen.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Sounds like the 6 people they've just spent 3 days training up in OUR office on the iLSM - 4 of them have now turned round and said they don't want to do the job now!!!
And after a while, you can work on points for style,
Like the club tie, and the firm handshake,
A certain look in the eye and an easy smile.

You have to be trusted by the people that you lie to,
So that when they turn their backs on you,
You'll get the chance to put the knife in.

It was implemented when we started operating the CSS machines. The team leader had an extra days training (on how to input the figures). We only started at the end of last year and I thought it was nation wide. The guy who covers his days off didn't get the training, but after a week of not doing the figures, he started getting the allowance so he started doing them. We're down in the South East and as far as I know all the MPU's under our MC and doing the same thing.
