The rumour is GL will be closed and the staff will be offered alternative jobs or redundancy.
I stress this is a rumour!

Hadn't it been saved and Oxford mooted for closure instead?

Re: Mail Centre Future (GL)
just a hunch but i think gloucester will cease being a mail centre and become a mail processing unit.rustictripod wrote:Staff at gloucester mail centre will be told the future of the mail centre on thursday any info?? anybody

basically just an inward office the css machines will remain and the cfc's,lsm's,and mtt's will go.
wether it will remain at the present site who knows! i work at gloucester and this is just what a few of us think, just a hunch.

Re: Mail Centre Future (GL)
The LSMs would stay as they can be used to sequence mail. The MTTs might also stay if they can be re-programmed to sequence mail.wolves169 wrote:just a hunch but i think gloucester will cease being a mail centre and become a mail processing unit.rustictripod wrote:Staff at gloucester mail centre will be told the future of the mail centre on thursday any info?? anybody

yes lsm's are used to sequence mail but from next year they're no longer being supported.to the best of my knowledge mail processing units just contain css machines.SpacePhoenix wrote:The LSMs would stay as they can be used to sequence mail. And after a while, you can work on points for style,
Like the club tie, and the firm handshake,
A certain look in the eye and an easy smile.
You have to be trusted by the people that you lie to,
So that when they turn their backs on you,
You'll get the chance to put the knife in.

Will have to wait and see what happens tomoz.
A rumour going round on the late shift is that at Filton where WOEMC is located the owners of the airport want to sell up and have told Royal mail to vacate the premisis. Therefore Royal Mail are going to build a new super duper massive Mail Centre at severn beach (Avonmouth, Bistol) and combind it with SWDC (South West Distribution Centre) to Process mail from Gloucester, Bristol, Exeter and Plymouth. That would be one massive building. Anyone from Bristol area heard this???????

Re: Mail Centre Future (GL)
There was a plan in 2006 to close Gloucester and transfer processing to Swindon, I think Oxford was preferred. It's less than 35 miles to both Swindon and Bristol but MC closures tend to stay within the Region boundaries so it's likely to move within Thames Valley ie Swindon. All that can be announced on Thursday is an MC review which takes a min of 90 days, followed by another 90 day consultation when other proposals can be put forward.
Other areas still left to announce MC reviews are Anglia, South Wales & South West and Wales. I think Gloucester will be the last to close in the Thames Valley area as the other MCs are Greenford, Hemel and Swindon which are all safe.

Re: Mail Centre Future (GL)
The thing that makes me laugh is that geographicly Gloucester is in the southwest region of the country, not the thames valley, hench thames valley and Gloucester as royal mail refer to it. All the other competitors class Gloucester as southwest. Makes Royal Mail look a bit stupied to me.
