A leap backwards for Royal Mail

I was somewhat surprised to see the Royal Mail currently operating a fleet of vans in Scotland with signs written in Welsh.
Following incidents in the 1950s that saw postboxes with the EIIR cypher being attacked by militant Scottish nationalists who objected to the term Queen Elizabeth II on the basis that Scotland had never had a Queen Elizabeth I, the then GPO undertook to use only ER in Scotland.
Yet these vans clearly display EIIR.
Perhaps times have changed and our nationalists no longer care about such things?

Can you buy the Daily Mail in Scotland?
He certainly sounds like one of their readers.

In a few years time post privatisation and twice weekly rural deliveries north of the border Mr Douglas will surely be questioning why he was ever concerned about whether the vans displayed Scottish, Welsh, English or whatever logos.

Re: A leap backwards for Royal Mail
I have been overtaken by one of these "welsh" vans in Edinburgh. Does anyone know what the sketch is?

He's worse. A Morning Star reader....
It's good that he's got his eye on the important matters, though.
