Yes Phil did but what is surprising is that he actually was an fully involved in the negotations on mail centre part of the agreement and to achieve an agreement on that aspect he had to confirm he was happy with that part of the agreement.

So he was unhappy with the rest of the agreement then, ie. the delivery section.
I'll have to review my earlier statment.

i will under no circumstances be voteing to re-elect anyone who was a member of the PEC at the time.

We need to engage the membership. Getting elected with 5,000 votes out of a 120,000 electorate should be seen as a bad thing and not something to celebrate. The starting point for re-engaging members is Branches to produce recommendation lists based on ability alone and not "you vote for me and I'll vote for you", geography, "he/she are a nice person" or any other rubbish that I have heard in recent weeks and indeed over the years.

Until we get to the point where we can recommend canidates to our members that will serve their best interests then how the hell can we expect postal workers to engage in the process.

I don’t want someone else “recommending” who I should vote for.

What I want is to know something about the people putting themselves up for election. Not one of these people is known to me. I’ve never met any of them, never had any dealings with them, never read anything by them or about them. How on earth do I know who to vote for?

My fear is that I will vote for the ‘wrong’ candidate, or fail to vote for the ‘right’ candidate, through ignorance. That’s why so many don’t vote. It is not because they can’t be bothered, it’s because they know nothing about the people standing and don’t know where these candidates stand on issues in relation to their own position.

For the Communication Workers Union to be so useless at communicating with its members may be richly ironic and faintly humorous but it’s also bloody frustrating. Yes Dingo, you’re right the union needs to “engage” with its membership. Right now voting for the National Executive and the Postal Executive might as well be a pin-sticking exercise for me.

As once said, communication is the problem to the answer.

Will it be as much as 10% I wonder..............there seems to be even more apathy than usual, in fact not one person has spoken about these elections. I'm not sure anyone knows, nowadays, what exactly the NEC/PEC is and what it is they do.....................having said that I'm a little bit hazy on what it is they do myself.

I know but unlike me the overwhelming majority of your pension will be based on a Final Salary scheme. You'll be helping me out in 20 years.....if I make it that far!

In 20 years I'd be 85 but you're right all my pension is final salary because I took it at 60 and an earlier pension from another company at 63 which is more than the one from RM and that is from 20 odd years ago and for the same amount of service - I don't envy those with a number of years to go; God only knows what the eventual value will be - the Government seems to have its eye on pensions in general.
