If they were properly endorsed then yes I've brought mail back (because I return to the office everyday) but always endorse the reason why.

Just out of interest, was this search conducted at the start of the day or at the end (straight after delivery)? We've had bag searches when people have turned up in a morning before. I know a part-timer who was found with a few missorts in his bag one morning, he was given a stern rebuke and sent on his way. I've never known a manager to be there when I get back from delivery, so we've never had a search then.

I'm struggling to see any disgusting bully boy tactics here. We all know that RM managers can be especially vindictive and more than willing to ignore agreements as and when it suits but jumping about, screaming "Bully" and stamping feet when people are caught bang to rights is pretty pathetic. Unfortunately there are a sizeable contingent of posties who are like this. And they're the one's who garner most attention and make us all look like prats.

I think you've got a decent chance with No1, especially if you can get him to see a Doc and get some medical evidence of extreme stress, depression etc. No2 could have a chance if the Overtime/office closed argument can be backed up with a lack of training in how to deal with missorts, P739's etc after the office has closed.

In the case of No3 - that's just stupidly lazy and the sort of thing that gives us all a bad name.

It was at the begining the dom was meeting people as they come through the door. I walked in at 5.45am and just said morning to him as i thought he might be waiting for the 1st lorry. However i dont take any pouches home.

Well its very OTT but the manager is only doing his job correctly, its not bullying. But it may have been nice to give us all a warning.

Yes its certainly shook the place up and perhaps we had become lapse in our work. However i dont feel that it needed to have cost ANY jobs when warnings would have been enough.

I will update when i find out what happens on the "fact findings" on Sat. I very much doubt Postie 1 will be able to attend as his not coping with this too well.

The problem with "warnings" is that it does lead to lax procedures and this is more than a wake up call. Our office managers reputedly set out to target a postman, who may or may not have deserved it, unfortunately or not the specific part of the duty which was left in was supposed to have been done by someone else and he was the one who got sacked because once embarked on the disciplinary route they couldn't or wouldn't change tac. The original "target" is still there some years later!

We had bag checks on Wednesday too. And as I understand it, so did the whole area. So I'm guessing this went above individual DOMs? Asuming the OP is in the same area. In our case, 9 were caught and 3 were suspended. Suspensions lifted the next day. No idea what the reps argued but it worked. The possibility of unofficial walkout may also have played a part!

At my office there was more fuss as the "grabbbers" fought for the overtime created. It made me quite sick to be honest, no one gives a monkies. For the first time ever i have considered changing office.

Please explain how anyone can figure out what mail has come from what mail box? Unless they suspect an individual and "Monitor" his duty. What happens if he returns to the office through several other duties and posts mail there? What happens if it's a genuine mis-sort and a customer puts it back in the letter box? This is RM FFS not the bloody CIA!

IMO if a postie is too lazy to deliver his mail and too stupid to deal with it then he deserves what he gets. Basically I just "Plod" round me duty and deliver everything if RM want me to walk up a 200m gravel track with a piece of TNT DSA rubbish, fair dos! You pay me and I'll deliver it. Too many idle bastards that have got used to knocking off 2 hours early and still getting paid for it!

Yep, that was us. Unless other offices followed suit? Which would be good to hear. But strictly speaking, we did not refuse to go out - the entire office just happened to be having its 40 minute meal relief in the canteen... all at the same time!

Not unknown for a load of letters to come from 1 bag,with addresses for the same street/area,all coded and franked-you aint gotta be columbo to work out who was delivering that walk,do you?
