26yrs and counting, ive been drivingfor the last few years after 20 plus years on the rounds and work to my time most days, take a break when needed, all this moaning about the jobs finished and so on done by posties who have been used to finishing well before there finishing time[ie, 2 deliveries, nobody ever worked till 12.30 in my office,if they did a 2nd delivery at all]if the postmen just got it in there head that they dont start before there time, dont rush about, and are now finishing mid afternoon they will find it isnt that bad.

have been with royal mail for nearly 25 years. thought it was a great job and one for life. that was untill a couple of years ago when royal mail made the desicion that they actually hate their own staff and and wish that they could just get rid of us. they treat us like sh@t and demand that we achieve a workload that they would never be able to achieve themselves. they are imoral and dispicable :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh

37 + years in the RM. Not too bad .... financially could not done better outside in civistreet. Enjoyed 36+ year ( except one year when things went wrong with management and the union. Union did NOT help .. I think union is waste of time now .. reps are there for light duties and o/t and good piss up with managers).

most of the replys i can understand and feel the same way but what winds me up
is the way offices work so different across the country yet all work for royal mail.

why have all part-time staff and contract staff been agreed to enter royal mail.
as soon as the above staff join royal mail they are stiched up by union and management.
as for these new delivery ideas, park and loop sounds like a primary school game.

as for the last two major agreements that were somehow voted in or were they?
royal mail has used every low scummy parts of these agreements it could to use for there changes for privatization.

royal mail do have the upper hand but then again will things change after cwu election candidates
votes are counted, remember before 15th august get your votes in.

41 years in the job i used to be so proud of,the service we gasve was first class customers especially the older one used to love seeing the postie and you had time for a chat and a cuppa but now as nobody knows what time or even if the post will turn up all that has gone (forever).
this lot in charge including the union now only care about making money.its all very sad and im glad i am nearly retired.also the young people dont help running around (tho im sure we oldies did the same) i did lol

The Problem is its not a skilled job, and most of you think your abit special and think your irreplaceable, when in reality your no better at the job than someone who's been doing it a few months its not about young people running around its about the ones that think they should be home at 11am but get paid till 2pm its a joke that most of think you created some sort of race of super postmen because what you been doing the same job for 20 years ? i say F the lot of ya go private and filter out the crap....

It's not about people running around? :d'oh!
Tell that to the ones with muscularskeletal problems, from carrying too much weight. And that's just the most obvious problem. :hmmmm :arrrghhh
The comment about people wanting to finish early. Well, I must admit you have a point there. But how few are there, who can still finish early? :hmmmm
Far more often, the problem is that it's simply not possible to get everything delivered, within their duty hours. And no. Not because they're "on a go slow", because they're not Home watching TV before the end of their duty. Even an ex-Military Fitness Instructor struggled to complete a round safely, in the time allowed (on Panorama if I remember correctly). So in cases like that. Either you carry too much weight, run/jog instead of walking, end up using your own car at your own expense (a completely different, and heated debate which we've been through many times before, so don't need to go into again now). Or often a combination of 2 or more of those problems. Or of course face emense pressure from your DOM, and accusations of not pulling your weight. The younger ones often give in to that pressure, and take stupid risks, because they're only on short term contracts. Or sometimes even because they're afraid to stand up to the Managers. And as frustrating as it is, I can't really blame them. This is hardly the best time to risk your contract not being renewed. The job market is terrible at the moment.

A race of Super Posites? :hmmmm
Well, considering the problems that the Fitness Instructor had keeping up, it's a possibility. But really, I think it's more a case of people being dedicated, determined, and VERY fit. From all the effort over the last few years, and not anything Super Human. But you do seem prone to ill informed generalisations, so I suppose we should forgive a little exaduration, eh? :chuckle :chuckle :chuckle :chuckle :chuckle

it may not be a skilled job but it is physical and the older you get the worst it gets.
as for royal mail to go private, well you dont know to much do or do you want to work
for a european mail company.
as to filter out the crap well management is being cut down and planning teams being dissolved
so atleast your right there.

Not quite got 20 in,only 19 for me at the mo.I have been looking for alternative employment these last few weeks, the job's gone to s**t as far as i'm concerned.I am sick of the penny pinching only to find all levels of management have recieved a bonus,FOR WHAT.For running the buisness in to the ground, hardly something to be credited for.Whereas we the customer facing workers get nothing but pressure of managers, lapsing, bigger deliverys,B&H in the workplace,FOR WHAT.For f**k all thats what.P.S. We have a lad at our place and funnily enough his nickname is Super Posty,3 rounds a day,mad as a box of tits.

21 years in the job, best part is deliverying ... engaging with the public ... sadly we are turning into a cowboy outfit ... where pressure and propoganda is the name of the game and everyone is under scrutiny .... Royal Mail will never be happy we work far harder than we have ever done ... but Royal Mail still thinks we are at it .... Royal Mail and their managers think they deserve respect ... sorry respect has to be EARNED and it goes both ways ... and as of late they do not deserve my respect .... they couldn't run a sweetie shop

21 years ........ Just to echo all that has already been said.

1. How much the CUSTOMER has suffered with Royal Mail not even bothered.
2. Job security has gone down the pan.
3. Constant lies Royal Mail tell us.
4. 3pm finish (or later) were as at one time customers used to set their clock by us delivering the mail at their house.
5. Royal Mail never promote good work opposed to failed posties electing themselves as Line Managers.
6. Happy atmosphere is a thing of the past at work, now it is a race to get out of the office.
7. Extra work we do now is NOT in line with our pay.
8. The Goverment Royal Mail and now the customers are opposed to us in that the service they are getting is dire.

The list goes on and to be honest it is only the wage at the end of the week that keeps us all at Royal Mail and sadly that is NOT good enough as we spend a lot of time at work in our lifes.

Have I missed anything else
NO bags on shoulders please except for Moya who keeps her big fat wage packet in hers
