Battle on to save village's post office

Post Office bosses have pledged to find a way to save postal services in a Fylde village.

Warton Post Office will close on September 13 after postmaster John Waring and his wife Christine decided to retire.

Mr Waring, who has run the Lytham Road branch for 13 years, said he has been trying unsuccessfully for three years to find a buyer for the premises.

The closure will leave Warton without Post Office facilities, with villagers facing a trip to Freckleton or Wrea Green to access services.

A Post Office spokesperson said: “We understand that customers in this area will be concerned about the future of Post Office services in their area.

“The provision of a Post Office service in the local community is important to us and we will continue to work hard to restore services to Warton as soon as possible.”

The closure will be discussed at a Warton Parish Council meeting in the village hall on Church Road, at 7.15pm on August 2.

Meanwhile, the Post Office’s University of Lancaster branch at Alexandra Square will relocate to Tower Avenue from August 30.

I don't think anybody will be going for the job, given what happened to previous Postmasters that got shafted, who wants to join a failing business.
