My better half is a cleaner and has been on sick for about 4 months with her achiles tendon's.
Her gaffer has asked to come and see her at home, should her boss be doing this and what can she expect from the visit?
She is still signed off by her doctor and OHS has said she could be off for some time with the posability of an operation in the future.

Re: Home visit while on long term sick
IMO the most likely reason for a visit of this nature is to say something like " sorry, we can no longer accomodate you, blah blah", and they will look to settle medical retirement.sheff postie wrote:My better half is a cleaner and has been on sick for about 4 months with her achiles tendon's.

First off get the rep in NOW, secondly becaause she has the possibility of a full recovery they cant really force her out (although they will try) so just stand your ground and refer to rep and medical reports. Let me stress this is just my opinion and they might just fancy a nice cup of tea

Romec is a joint venture company established in 2002. It is still a part of Royal Mail Group, and normally undertakes the cleaning of all Royal Mail Group buildings including Post Office Limited buildings.
All our Cleaner members in Romec are represented by Bob Gibson, Assistant Secretary, Outdoor Department.
Officer Substitute - Noel McClean, PEC Member.
The Policy Advisor in the Department is Steve Fishwick - sfishwick@cwu.org.
All issues affecting our cleaner members are the responsibility of the Outdoor Department, including Pay Terms & Conditions, Productivity Bonus, Managing the Surplus Agreement etc.
As in all cases, your local CWU Branch or Workplace Representative should be your first port of call, as they are in a much better position to deal with local issues.
If you do need to get in touch with the Outdoor department at CWU Headquarters, please contact Hayley Nutley at hnutley@cwu.org or telephone 0208 971 7276

Re: Home visit while on long term sick
As a RM worker it has been known for our managers to visit us if we are on long term sick, it happend to me and turned out to be innocent, just asked how I was and if I knew my future plans and could they help me, I was actually surprised, so don't panic just yet but you would be right to do some homework and prepare.
