If you want to change the USO spec to scrap/alter the current Saturday service then think tactics, huffing and puffing at Dave Ward, Bob Gibson and the PEC and in particular my first choice candidate for the NEC/PEC will get you nowhere. Bypass them altogether and take your view and a campaign to were it may actually achieve something. Write to the government lobby your MP write to the local branches of your political parties write to the local papers try and get customers onside. Put your views in the customer forum on this site and see what response you get. If the government decide to put a alteration to the vote in the house of commons and lords and that vote is carried, then it wont make a blind bit of difference what the Officers and PEC think!

Don't you think it would be easier Dazzer if Union had policy to remove long Saturdays well Saturdays overall for them to lobby goverment. What can I achieve as mere postie. Tuesday off this week what use is that

That point is why many in my D.O did not want a 5 day week to start with back in 2004, although they love the docket from working their day off. I have a colleague who has every Wednesday off and has no interest in Saturdays off. As places to go tend to be quieter on a weekday especially the cinema which he goes to a lot he prefers weekday off. A weekday off is fine for me as I get the chance one day a week to take the children to school and during school holidays it dose not really matter.

My view is from having read endless transcripts of parliamentary debate that MP's and Lords would be far more interested in the views of a individual worker than that of the union "barons"

This is a strange debate. I have not been on here with any regularity since 2007 when we ended getting 7 people being disciplined for remarks made on this site. Its good to see Martin on here also giving his thoughts and welcome to the site. Can't see however why some are on here saying we have people who want to go to Doctors etc mid-week when that is pandering to the lowest common denominator once again.

Seems to me poll on here suggests people want Saturday off and yet those on here are giving reasons against and ignoring majority.

I have not seen questions in current consultation but hope the issues of Saturdays is one of them. The Bristol branch has asked for Monday-Friday deliveries to be CWU policy at the last two conferences and will do again in 2012 I suspect.

I hope before the next conference those on here trying to defend the current CWU policy will consult their own membership before voting. To reverse the trend of so few voting the CWU needs to give them a reason to vote.

Let's really listen to the members of the CWU and make this a great membership Union again.
