Post by Roy Mayall »

The amount of lost or delayed mail is no surprise – ill-conceived new working methods have slowed postal workers down

MODERNIZATION......... the whole thing has been a complete farce,,, being expected to do the work of 2 people in a day, with impossible work loads....... its a joke......... all because the computer says it can be done... what managers don't tell you is that inputting impossible work performance rates into a computer outputs impossible work loads........ being expected to work at 130% work rate every day is JUST WAY beyond a human being capability....... but managers say postie you can do it because the computer says so.......... every manager ive asked to do the job of a postie in our office have refused, point blank,, they know it cannot be done, but they still bully and harrass you to do it......... SOMETHING seriouly needs to be sorted out with the modernization fiasco,, whether it be local concillors or mp's, but then again the government have ordered the destruction of ROYAL MAIL so it can be sold off....... so count MP'S out they are all in it to desimate ROYAL MAIL,,,,,,,,, its totally failing the public, and it won't be long before someone keels over from slavery........

I hate the "Judas" trash, you know, scumbags who were our colleagues not so long ago, and now fall over themselves doing the dirty on us because they've "gone manager."
Without them, the shyte we have in senior management wouldn't have got away with half the crap they have.

Another thing, a union with the guts to defend it's members would not have gone amiss either.

Ufortunatley We are our own worst enemies,If we stopped chasing around like lunatics, came in on time, stopped using cars, prepped households in work time and took meal reliefs the situation would change and duties would have to be put back in offices to stop the inevitable cut offs

At last an article highlighting the white elephant that is walk sequencing.

The only benefit is that any numpty off the street can come in a throw in a walk.

Before that the mail goes through 2 machines, put in trays, put in a york, moved to another york, tipped out ,put through a sequencing machine 3 times, then put in trays again then put in yet another york,is driven miles up and down a motorway and up to 5% is rejected and has to be manually sorted.Future problems for machine operators will be backs, knees, arms, shoulders, these machines demand a high amount of physical effort from people.

All in all walk sequencing was the wrong decision by people long gone (with handsome payouts) and we're bloody stuck with it !!!!

The penny's finally dropped then?

And as in all cases where automation takes over from the human element, those CSSs don't go sick, text their mates, yack about football, read the Sun, or stare at the ceiling when they should be working, either, and that's precisely why companies pay huge sums to automate thier processes.

Ours must be the only business that has paid millions of £'s to actually slow down the process.

Think back 15 years when most mail was sorted by hand and postman were on the steets by 6:45.Try telling kids these days that we needed torches and bike lights ...........................

It is a time consuming, inefficient process at the moment...but i don't expect it will stay that way.

Except it isn't. When they break down there isn't the staff numbers or know-how anymore (or soon won't be)

If one of the CSS breaks down they walksort on the other one (only two CSS in our MPU). So in that respect it is back to the old ways of walksorted rather than sequenced.

Tman is right (I think I'm going for a shower now :nervous ) the machine breaks down then it gets sent to us as crash mail.

Except it is, because as Philthyphil says it will be back to the old walksorted mail. So as usual it's the poor old posties in the offices that suffer as they will no longer have the time on their duties.
Before someone says it i know "cut off" !!!!

We've had the CSS machines for nearly 5 years now and they're as slow now as they were at the start !!!
