Big daz - there was a conference debate about Exec members going back to their jobs after a certain period a few years ago. Think it was either Noels branch or one close by geographically that put it on agenda. I recall another Anglia EC member opposing it from EC possibly John Farnan? Anyway it did get defeated

The big debate is should senior/national level reps return to the front-line every so often to update their experience of being a day to day worker. That is a debate that should take place in the context of providing the best possible representation to the membership, rather than having a pop at individuals about the amount of time its been since they were a front line CWU mbr and that it effects their judgement in a negative manner.

Another debate?
A little less conversation...a little more action is the order of the day Daz,we are in danger of procrastinating the union to death here,Of course it effects their judgement in a negative manner,if you no longer know the job how can you adequately represent members who do the job...that is beyond debate...the only thing up for debate is how we refresh those skills without losing genuine talent from the senior ranks..and obviously the financial implications.
There are only two ways...either the union does it through procedure or the membership does it through the ballot box.

I would like to see a vote of the mbrs on the issue of PEC mbrs/national officers/divisional reps returning to the front line after a certain period of time.

We put agreements with employers to the vote we put mergers with other unions to the vote, we put rep positions to the vote when more than one candidate but everything else doesn't. Lets get more say for the rank and file on how the CWU is run.

Members don't vote fromm what I see let alone on all that its a cop out
