Clashcityrocker,

Go to a delivery office and ask the members in there. It's about a section of the workforce getting a pay rise and others getting a real terms pay cut overall. In Bristol we calculated that some members in delivery would be earning less after the three year pay deal than at the start.

This cant be right that we have winners and losers like this, it's got to be the fastest way to loose members.

I actually work in a delivery office.

Would you have opposed the lifting of the cap of 3 D2D/week?
We need the work in our DOs to protect jobs.

Once the cap has gone, some areas would have the opportunity to earn more money as they work in areas that advertisers are interested in.
Others would be left without the opportunity to earn any more because of where they work.
Some posties would be earning an extra £60/70/week. Others not.
By lifting the cap and keeping the unit payment, you would still have a winners and losers scenario.

It is unlikely that by keeping the unit payment, you could also have D2D into workload.
Isn't D2D into workload a good thing for a delivery office?

It would be if it was taken into account when planning the revisions.

I work in delivery office clashcityrocker. Well seem to sepnd most of time outdoors now after them down there stitched us up. Just got home after another long day. Leave the kid alone at least he questions things. From what I see you just spouting off garbage my rep says he heard on roadshow last year. Ill tell you bout winers and losers. When mail Centres close up here there is no fight put up and when they close in london the EC put up a fight. Thats winners and losers.
Next you be saying EC need paying and i back that lad for saying thats wrong also.
When was last time this Maclean you back did a delivery. Sticthes us up with saturdays but bet he hasnnt done a delivery for ages and cant be found on a saturday. Defend those people if you want but dont just attack them thats trying to change things.

Then he will understand why he too needs to be questioned.
To be fair they aren't difficult questions - would he have opposed the lifting of the cap on D2D?
Once the cap is gone how do you deal with the consequences of that?

Did he ask you to fight his battles for him?

I won't argue with you over the D2D,i don't think that created a winners and losers situation...if anything it was losers and losers, financially at least...the dubious benefits with regards to protecting jobs remain unproven.

I have to say though that the statement above already applies and nothing has been done to address the issue of certain areas deliberately under-staffing to protect SA earnings...if it's your day off...it's your day off...not an opportunity to fill your boots.
What about those jobs...why can't we protect those..or is it too controversial since those areas kick off?
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

You can imagine the sort of money to be earned if you're on a 4 day week and work 2 days on OT with a 2.45hr delivery on a 10 hour day.....................

I'm with you there.
There was a revisions guidelines from the NE (I think) which specifically targeted the removal of SA duties to maximise employment.
I know here on the West Coast our Area reps have made filling vacancies a priority (with some success)
I don't think it is good trade unionism to have some people working 60hrs/week if it means keeping others on 25hr contracts or on the dole.

:hmmmm

How many delivery points are we talking about? Must be a lot to be worse off after 3 increases to basic pay and a 52 week supplement.

If the supplement had been £30, £40 or even £50 would you still object?

Basic pay and the supplement are not keeping up with inflation so whatever way you look at it we are all earning less.

Are you suggesting that without the agreement there wouldn't have been an annual round of pay talks to get a %age increase - in fact we may well have fared better under the financial burdens caused by the recession. Take fuel charges 18% Gas, 16% Electric, Petrol etc...........lets face it the BTA was a pay cut quite plain and simple, anyone who thinks differently is clearly a union man looking to score brownie points.

Kye i'm sure is aware that by coming on here he will be questioned about his election address.

Right there hell get questions with those thoughts but done well so far. Me I always stick up for those I think are right can't see harm in that. Has anyone got the answer to my question from yesterday. What was the number of job losses in other countries that did away with saturdays. My cousin said it was nowhere near one in six. All bout negotiation I suppose and only thing current Ec have give us is longer ones

All depend on duties are structured to begin with. The number of job losses depends exactly on what type of service is provided on a Saturday and then there is the impact on processing and distribution if any?

Have other countries provided a 6 day service with workers doing a 5 day week?
