Right wing your having a laugh how many stikes have your organised or led , the fact is I have no problems meeting members and aksing their support for stike action or supporting agreements. Lets have a look at things in London we have not introduced any revisons under BTA since early this year because we are demanding that fixed term contracts who have 2 years in Royal Mail are made permanent.

We organised a ballot and got 9 yes votes for strike action in regards to mail centres and achieved an agreement which ensure for the first time ever in an agreement that Royal Mail sign into a guanantee of no complusory redundnacies.

In 2009 I help lead the London dispute some of London unites had over 22 days of strike action.

In 2007 London supported the national strike action as per the majority of the country but only London and Liverpool went out on unofficial strike action which help sercure the grandfathers rights on early shift allowance which became part of the delivery supplement.

In 2003 whilst the rest of the country got a no vote for stirke action , I help organise the London weighting yes vote which after 2 days of official strike action led to 2 weeks of unoffical action which got the rest of the country the pay and major change agreement which secured the £26.28 deal and the 5 day week.

Now if that right wing then tell me who you think is left wing.

whoa dingo. im just a working postman (whee - not this week!) - i have no idea you were such a big shot. why are you giving me your cv?

if your left wing why did you waste a Yes vote in london which must have made the bosses shjite themeself and then let teh mail centres close. being right wing means you sell out the workers. my rep told me whenm you got the yes vote that you would save the mail centres and that would help everyone else. you didnt - dave ward gave in without even taking one day of strike action and from what you say you are (div rep Im guessing?) you gave in to. leading strikes dont mean anything - winning them does.

im a socialist. its easy. fighting means fighting. we could have saved mail centres if we had had a strike at the beginning and the union could have saved most of them with a proper fight. dave ward didnt do that - he let royal mail close them one by one.

thats why im voting for the people not on the exec - aint got my ballot paper yet. are you on it? most of the people up here hate london - my rep says you all talk big.

anyway, as youre so connected, what did his letter mean this week?

Jimmy

Your rep needs to understand BT2010 gives agreement to less MC's. Exactly how many and where they should be sited is something that CWU and RML will always have differing views on.

Jimmy cricket you who do not know me was saying I was right wing. I simply explained to you what I stand for.

Now we never surrendered the Yes vote , we secured a first class agreement.

I think the disputes which we have been involved with we have got succussful agreements. Thats why when we ask the members for support they normally support us.

Lets get this straight about mail centres closing. They have been closing for years. In London we have seen the closures of 7 in 15 years. Other mail centre have closed before the agreement was reached Stockport , Oldham , Crewe , Liverpool , Coventry , Milton Keynes ,Reading and Oxford.

Mail centres will close further , why because DSA now accounts for 50% of outward traffic and therefore by passes the outward processing process and needs to only be inward processed. Automation also means that work can be processed quickly and that capicity is now available to close mail centres. Everyone knows that , it may be popular to deny that fact but everyone knows that futher mail centre closures will take place. At annual conference a motion from Essex Amal seeking a new way of addressing Mail Centre closures was accepted . The Union cannot simply say that we are going to protect bricks and mortar when the evidence is that mail levels have declined especailly on the outward from the fact that DSA is increasing.

Well the workload for mail centres is decreasing, the workforce has definitely decreased but has the NEC/PEC decreased accordingly? Has the CWU wages bill decreased, have savings been made, have departments been streamlined.............well I can make a pretty educated guess, but I'll just bet there are a million reasons why it isn't happening.

Duvbuk55 a national officers post is being lost and the Postal members on the NEC has been reduced. You guessed right with the Postal Exec though. They will still all be working from London and the numbers have not changed. There has also been talk of increased pay from the employer for Postal Executive members.

I know at least one PE candidate who thinks getting higher pay is a good idea but of course they won't say it at election time. I'm glad that Kye has had the guts to raise this in his election address.

The Bristol branch opposed increased pay for the Postal Executive at Conference but hardly anyone else supported us.

Ah yes the trough gets deeper and deeper. Now the best thing would be to ask the membership if they thought pay should be increased for the PEC and I think the general consensus would be that they should have the same increase we got - less the loss of earnings from the BTA 2010. Having a loss of a national officer, I presume the PEC are considering his salary to be shared amongst them. Those are the things that highlight the gulf between the general membership and those who are SUPPOSED to represent them. Exactly what steps have been taken to curtail the expenditure of HQ in light of previous statements made at conference.

Big Daz wrote:Sounds like you need RON on the ballot paper, I imagine if that went to conference it would be opposed :hmmmm
"Re-open Nominations (RON)Many students' unions in the British Isles use a similar ballot option called re-open nominations (RON)[7] in IRV (also known as the alternative vote) and single transferable vote (STV) elections. These include the National Union of Students in the UK and UCD Student's Union in the Republic of Ireland. The difference is that RON is a vote against all candidates in FPTP (first-past-the-post) and all subsequent candidates in an IRV or STV election.

There are several ways of dealing with a RON candidate. In a single member constituency or election to a single position RON is treated as a normal candidate. If re-open nominations is deemed elected to any position then at the end of the count that position is declared vacant and nominations must later be re-opened for that position.

In a multi-member constituency there are two approaches. In the first, when a RON candidate is elected, all other candidates below RON are declared not to be elected and the counting process stops, the election is then re-run for that and all other unfilled positions. In the second, RON is elected to a position, then any surplus is transferred to another RON(2) candidate as if such an option had been presented on the ballot paper. If RON(2) is elected, then the process carries on with RON(3), RON(4) candidates and so on until all seats are filled. This is sometimes called the Stack RON method.

RON is not strictly a none of the above candidate in transferable vote elections, as when RON is eliminated during the count its votes are transferred to other candidates if those preferences exist."

Look, the PEC is having its numbers cut so the remaining PEC members will be required to absorb the work of the cut members. If their workload increases, they should get more pay like we do (not).

Dingo - im not trying to have a go at yuo mate but you sound like a manager. i heard dave ward speak once and he did too.

postmen dont wanna hear it mate. capacity and flow - thats for the guvnoirs to talk about. iv ebeen in other unions and ive never heard reps talk like that. thats how guvnoirs talk and the unions job is to fight for jobs and pay and other stuff that benefits the members. that is why the members aint interested in teh union - they sound like they wanna be the bosses. when union reps and full timers talk like that - there aint any difference. wards letter is the same -it sounds like a manager. it must do = i dont understand it and nor does anyone else!

since i been in the the cwu it seems like th epeople at the top are failed guvnoirs and tha tthey wanna rrun the company. that aint your job.
yu say you made a great agreement - that agreement closed mail centres. how can it be great??

nobody in my office apart from the rep and me is votiong in the postal exec elections - they aint interested. the exec wont matter until they go back on the tools. most unions have execs that are working people to represent members cos they know how they live. the post exec is miles away from members - stuck in london town picking tehir ass and dont know whats going on. that what people realaly think. they need to be like the workers - just in london for the meetings now and again and working teh rest of the time.

i like the sound of dvb - hes teh kind of person the union needs. the best people aint interested.
whats this talk about exec people being paid?

They are paid the same as a manager, not the same as the postal worker, immaterial as to what their actual grade is. It surprises me that they don't actually get the same bonus as managers.......well if they do it is yet another closely guarded secret.

Although I may bitch about the union I think enough about it to have rejoined and I do not underestimate the difficult task they have BUT there is a degree of self kidology about what it is they are achieving. I much prefer honesty as opposed to the deluded view some posters have of the CWU - when you talk about rose tinted glasses, they must be wearing the thickest pair there is.
