Re: My NEC/PEC Votes
The point is Fishtank if the people involved in deciding if a deal is any good are making plan A, how can there be a plan B
they've already put there egg's in one basket, they can't have an argument against what they've agreed.

Re: My NEC/PEC Votes
I agree with you rocky,if you've already decided it's the best you can get it's a bit pointless voting on whether you should go back for more, and more than pointless it kind of skews the vote a bit.rockytony67 wrote:The point is Fishtank if the people involved in deciding if a deal is any good are making plan A, how can there be a plan Bthey've already put there egg's in one basket, they can't have an argument against what they've agreed.

Re: My NEC/PEC Votes
I do think that the membership should have the right to know, that when a deal is recomended to them by the PEC, they should be told how many members of the PEC were involved in making that deal and as such are not coming to to it with an open mind
just an idea

Re: My NEC/PEC Votes
Seems like a sensible approach given the lack of information provided. Think I'll only vote twice as well ,just to avoid any snakes slipping in by default. Unless of course existing PEC members wish to declare their previous voting recordbelle smith wrote:Oh i am still very unhappy with "the deal"lovejoy wrote:Given how spread the negotiations were for BT agreement there aren't many PEC members that did not get involved in the talks at some level / for for some function. Also the PEC voted as a whole to recommend the agreement. It would be unfair and misleading to point the finger of blame at any individual if you are still unhappy with the deal.belle smith wrote:Was that not the same Noel Mclean that was one of the main negotiators for 2010 BTA?Big Daz wrote:4)![]()

Would i be right in thinking that he did a lot more of the negotiations than most on the PEC?
I hadn't forgoten about the other members of the PEC i will under no circumstances be voteing to re-elect anyone who was a member of the PEC at the time.
Bye

Re: My NEC/PEC Votes
Yes Phil did but what is surprising is that he actually was an fully involved in the negotations on mail centre part of the agreement and to achieve an agreement on that aspect he had to confirm he was happy with that part of the agreement.jimmy cricket wrote:think phil browne voted against deal. as well as him im voting for the new peeps. vote against anyone who has made me work harder for less

Re: My NEC/PEC Votes
If you look at the returns for the Postal Executive election last year only 13617 valid votes were returned or just over 1 in 10 voted. Of the people who got elected only Phil Browne actually got a majority of those who voted. Not one of the others was able to get over 50% of those who bothered to vote. The percenatge gets worse the further down the list people finished but thats stating the obvious really

A sad reflection of the lack if interest from the membership in the PEC / NEC elections.
The recent return levels for the Divisional Rep elections weren't much better.
The debate surely needs to shift? Why aren't members voting? How can we make the EC more accountable to members? How can EC increase their visibility in the workplace? How can we make sure that the EC contains the best 13 representatives in the UK?.....Some of them wouldn't get on your Branch committee!
We need to engage the membership. Getting elected with 5,000 votes out of a 120,000 electorate should be seen as a bad thing and not something to celebrate. The starting point for re-engaging members is Branches to produce recommendation lists based on ability alone and not "you vote for me and I'll vote for you", geography, "he/she are a nice person" or any other rubbish that I have heard in recent weeks and indeed over the years.
Until we get to the point where we can recommend canidates to our members that will serve their best interests then how the hell can we expect postal workers to engage in the process.
I fear that i'll die an old man before the candidates are selected on merit alone!

Re: My NEC/PEC Votes
I fear you will but the Postal Executive carried policies in the Strategic Plan in 2003 where Postal Exec members had a rota for branch visits and membership meetings and this fell apaprt after less than twelve months - ww can guess why. I am sick and tired of hearing people say "we need a debate on this" as an excuse for doing nothing to correct the situation. I am gald to see you want change as things cant continue. If there is no change we will be getting people elected with around 5% of those who vote in the future.

Re: My NEC/PEC Votes
Hmm
For starters each PEC mbr could visit every D.O/SPDO/MC within their branch of origin then move out across their region and beyond in to any region/division that dose not have a PEC mbr. The aim should be that within each PEC 2 year period every workplace get at least one visit from a PEC mbr.

Re: My NEC/PEC Votes
London, not me young man, most definitely north of London in a self starter D.O where delivery methods revision is due early 2012. Sequenced mail machines go in at the neighbouring D.O in October. Some of my ancestors came from the streets of gold if that's any help?
Who is Maclan from London?
Do you mean Noel McClean whose branch of origin covers parts of Norfolk, Cambridgeshire, Huntingdonshire, Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire and Lincolnshire.
