Whatever the delivery spec may be in the future having a packet/parcel delivery service is essential to maintain competitive edge against our rivals.

Re: VOTE KYE DUDD VOTE FOR CHANGE
I don't pretend for one moment that Conference is the font of all knowledge and wisdom. Far from it, but it is the soveriegn body of the Union, and if you want to be on the PEC, as Kye does, you have to accept the decisions it makes.fishtank wrote: Out of touch with the rest of the country vanman?...really?
And you base that on Annual Conference.....![]()
I don't agree with Mon-Fri but i'm not foolish enough to believe that the majority of the membership don't....and really it's only their opinion that counts, not Branch delegates.
I know who is out of touch with the membership and it isn't Kye Dudd.
Despite what you may think - the delegates to Conference do, on the whole, reflect the views of the membership. It's worth noting that only Kye's branch and possibly one other supported the Mon-Fri idea at Conference.
I do not accept for one minute that the majority of CWU members would vote for Mon-Fri and cut one job in six.
This definitely would be a case of Turkeys voting for an early Christmas.

I am not a supporter of a Mon - Friday delivery however, even on here where we are sometimes called "militant" and lefties historically members have voted FOR getting rid of Saturdays

Re: VOTE KYE DUDD VOTE FOR CHANGE
You do have to accept it but being on the PEC doesn't mean that you have to agree with it,as i said earlier the last thing we need is a set of nodding dogs,if all we needed was a rubber stamp we could do away with the PEC entirely and save the union a great deal of money.vanman wrote:If you want to be on the PEC, as Kye does, you have to accept the decisions it makes.
Differing views, experience and ideals on the PEC can only be a good thing
I wouldn't want to have any serious money riding on the outcome of that vote.I do not accept for one minute that the majority of CWU members would vote for Mon-Fri and cut one job in six.
It would depend on how it was sold to them and whether a plan b was available.

Fishtank - Fair comment about nodding dogs/rubber stamp.
TBT - I'm not sure the polls you quote are particularly reliable as a means of establishing the thoughts of 130,000 postmen/women.
Perhaps if you had a poll asking the following:
"Do you agree to Royal Mail changing the service to do away with one job in six?"
You might get a different answer.
Altenatively you could try:
"Turkeys - do you want to bring Christmas forward to August?"
Seriously though, the point I'm making is that whilst Kye's honesty may refreshing, he is naive and misguided if he thinks moving to a Mon-Fri spec is a good idea.
If you want to vote for him - fair enough.
I won't be.

Re: VOTE KYE DUDD VOTE FOR CHANGE
No doubt my branch reps there voted against the 5 day week but they did not ask me,my colleagues at my DO,the rest of the branch. As this was overwhelmingly defeated at Annual Conference, how can someone hoping for election to the PEC be so out of touch with the rest of the Country, let alone expect to be able to pursue a policy completely opposite to that which Conference wants. After all Conference is the supreme decision making body of the Union - not the PEC.
A select few who vote there can no way vote for the rest of the membership if the membership have not been properly consulted before hand.
I am very much against Mon-Fri,if anything i think we should go one better and offer a Sunday service.
As has been stated in the thread and in the polls it seems that the majority would vote for Mon-Fri.
Am i also not right in saying that the 2010 agreement in part pushes for part timers to work near the end of the week and on Saturdays,it's already started.
A bit of jigging and a reduced Sat service is there.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Vanman - I agree in that they are not very scientific.
I also agree that if we had a polls asking the questions you presented then we would get a different answer (at least I hope so
).
I agree with you about Saturdays and disagree with Kye.
However, I won't be using my votes on the basis of one particular issue, but will decide on each candidate in the round, based on my own personal views, my own politics, the election material they present and any information that comes to light on RMC and various Social Media. If this means I vote for people who supported BT2010 and PM07 then so be it but one thing I am certain of is that the PEC needs to reflect the makeup of ordinary members in age, gender, roles, politics and aspirations and I will do my little bit to try and ensure that happens.

If there was one poll that we could get right on here,i would of thought it would be this one.

Re: VOTE KYE DUDD VOTE FOR CHANGE
If Royal Mail turned around tomorrow and said we are doing away with Saturday deliveries but there will be no compulsory redundancies only VR's and the termination of FTC's under 2 years you wouldn't be able to secure a national IA ballot by throwing in a free trip to Disneyland.
It's very sad...and some will refuse to accept it...but that's how it is.

Re: VOTE KYE DUDD VOTE FOR CHANGE
There is also the fact that along with the loss of 1 in 6 jobs, goes the loss of 1 in 6 people (possibly) paying union subs.
That might mean the end of the CWU as a stand alone union and lead to its merger.
What union official is going to vote for that?

Re: VOTE KYE DUDD VOTE FOR CHANGE
The thing about union subs and the membership is that there is no plan to try to get non-members to join, certainly not in my branch. And everyone keeps harping on the 1 in 6 like some gypsy mantra, it wouldn't be as high as that, and the subs.............they'd just go up..........because despite the protestations of trying to cut costs by HQ I don't see any sign of it. The latest scam, pay by the hours worked is a prime example. Though in truth I would charge everyone the same at a fixed cost.clashcityrocker wrote:There is also the fact that along with the loss of 1 in 6 jobs, goes the loss of 1 in 6 people (possibly) paying union subs.

Re: VOTE KYE DUDD VOTE FOR CHANGE
Does anyone know if 1 in 6 amount is really correct or just something everyone shouts about cos a lot on here are saying the same. All I know is them making decisions for longer Saturdays are probably in bed when I'm working Saturday. Other countries introduced Monday- Friday so what was job losses like. Work still gotta be done but in less days. Good to see its talked about at the conference but bet that's not on a saturday. Heavy day today so must dash. More Saturdays off is what we want. Come on Tony and Kye

Kye Dudd:
I will oppose the leadership in their drive to embrace a "winners and losers" culture as in the door to door agreement.
What exactly does that mean?
