The door sill is also too high as I am always getting my foot trapped when getting back in and closing the door - usually when parked on a slope. The engine heat does not help either in this hot weather. The Ford Connect and some Fiats we have are far better - you can get both feet on the ground before getting out. Also the third door is useful.

287 calls on my route, climbing from river level to houses 25 steps plus, overlooking river valley makes it a tough day. Not to mention horse riders, ramblers and day trippers on the overgrown, narrow lanes.
the transit connects are great wee vans... fantastic seating position, plenty of adjustment options ...
the fiats.. assuming you mean the Doblo vans... while they also have a decent seating position... are absolutly no use for rurals... town deliveries fair enough, but deliveries down dirt tracks or farm lanes - absolutly no feckin use

Don't mind the vauxhall at all. Being a short arse probably helps. Be even better if they had air con, considering we're supposed to keep windows up at all times for security. Sod the posties, let them roast, just as long as the mails alright seems to be the attitude.

Oh and here's an idea. Lets do away with early starts and keep them out in the hottest part of the day!!

Yeees and while we're at it, lets keep them out for even longer.

As long as you don't carry anything in the front you can have the windows wide open surely :Very Happy

It's up to the driver...
RM Delivery Equipment Security Procedure

Open windows and doors leave people vulnerable to attack
Drivers should consider whether driving with all doors locked and windows closed provides greater personal protection.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

i was under the impression (from what my DOM at the time said) that we were not allowed, or not meant to have any windows rolled down... and that if caught with them down, we could face diciplinary action for breach of security etc.

but since there is little or no chance that RM will ever order vans fitted with air con... due to initial cost, and ongoing cost due to increase in fuel consumption through the use of air con... i dont know why RM dont just fit plastic mesh on the inside of van dinows like some other couriers do with thier vans....
i mean its not getting any cooler (termperature wise) year on year, especially in the summer... and since security is an issue... fitting the mesh thing.. would enable fresh cool air into the van, while still retaining the security that is a priority

mind you i suppose that wouldnt work everwhere since some places that vans need to get into for deliveries and/or collections could require a buzzer to be pressed... something that would be pretty difficult if the mesh was in place.

I can only tell you what we have had said to us,most of the drivers drive with the windows cracked abit to let air in but i do know that due to recent activity all drivers have been told to be alot more careful in how they drive from point to point and have also been told to make sure that all windows are shut and OMV is secured before leaving to deliver mail, the drivers tend to drive back with windows open and only pull up windows when coming into the town area to come back to the office because of unscruples criminals but if they are moving with no stopping i know they let their hair blow in the wind  if they have any :Very Happy

Glad someone has brought this up, I had nothing but problems with one knee then the other from constantly climbing out of the Combo, this went on for years, taking endless painkillers especially at Christmas, ended up in hospital and physio that did Jack S - then changed van to Bipper and not a problem, whilst not the best delivery van it certainly is a comfortably drive and getting in and out is magic. No problems with knees until van goes in to the garage for whatever and i'm left with a Combo. By the way 360 rural delivery points and 6' 3'' which probably doesn't help.
