Stinker of a day but I knew it would be. In at 7, out for 9:45, not finished until 16:30. It was a rural with a lot of driving so it was easy enough. It was breaking off to do Specials that killed me time-wise - 17 of them today! :crazy:

Bloody shoes got ruined today as well! I was standing getting mail out of the van and I didn't realise the tarmac under me was melting in the heat!

Very long and tiring day. Off the IPS late, hammered with packets. Had to take 13 of the 15 recorded items I hade myself, (2 on the van in a sack full for 1 customer). Scorching hot and shattered. Glad its my day off Friday. :wink:

Only thing bulking the walk out today was United Utilites letters regarding change over for reponsibilty for the sewer pipes. Took about 4hrs 45mins, including travel to and from walk. Showers on and off all morning and a bit warm. Looking forward to a few pints in town tonight. :Very Happy

Today was my last day of covering the Supervisors duties (for what amounts to an extra £4.50 a day after tax they can well and truly stick it), so it was a great day despite getting soaked out on deliveries. And I have 2 weeks to look forward to.

The last 2 weeks however...total nightmare. They moved our counter into Budgens and between the Collections manager, area manager and my dom they managed to get absolutely nothing sorted out. So I spent the last 2 weeks trying to get things organised, only to be told by my dom after a collection had failed that "common sense tells you that the mail needed collecting from Budgens." The reply he got was thus - "well mate...common sense tells me that it should've been sorted out 5 months ago when you all knew it was moving. Here's a novel idea...why not have a bash at actually 'managing' the situation instead of leaving it to me, which is a luxury you won't be doing when I return from my holiday as I'm resigning my Supervisors duties effective from 16th July."

I have no idea who'll be opening the office up, or scanning in the specials/tracked items now...but it sure as hell won't be me!

PHG today. Hate it on a Saturday, such a long and boring day. Me and the other guy brighten it up by giving each other words we have to slip into phone conversations...

Just finished late on our supposedly lighter mondays. Told we could neither claim overtime or break off as mail figures suggest we are 10,000 letters down on our model week. Managers also telling us our 5 lots of door to door are built in to the round. I found one poor chap weeping in the toilets as a manager told him he is incompetent. What the hell is royal mail coming to, in 20 odd years as a postie i have never seen staff moral so low. If you bring mail back after reaching your cut off time you are dragged into the office with threats of wilfulling delaying mail. Do any other offices have these threats hanging over them? We just dont know what the answer is. Our union rep says work to your time but when you do you are disciplined for bringing mail back.

It's nothing to do with what the MC says, it's what is on your actual frame, people just need to stick to their guns and tell the DOM no, stand firm and make sure the rest of the office also does so and you'd be surprised what can happen.......................and just remember, the worst that can happen is you get sacked which isin't the end of the world.
