Night Staff

Post by pilsbury »

At the start of this week we lost half our night staff to EVR.They were not due to leave for another 8 weeks but they have been paid their EVR and have been allowed to leave 8 weeks early with pay.....Not bad if you can get it.As you can imagine there has been loads of mail left and cut offs galore on a daily basis. Has this happened at any other offices or are our old night staff the luckiest people alive. :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh

Next thing is all the EVR's have joined an agency and will be back in on nights. Believe me,i've seen it often. They don,t have to be trained up.

Our night crew has been severely reduced over the last 2 years.

We're down to 4 walk sequencing machine operators and 3 ex phg's.

Our jobs are not covered during annual leave so sometimes we're down to 4 in total.

I would give anything to get EVR (I've done 20 years and am 6 years away from retirement) but have been told by our DIM that EVR is not an option in our area in the forceable future.

Our delivery staff do around 2 hours IPS on a regular day.

our office has no night staff at all now!!!! the trouble now is a lot of bags are arriving untipped!!! the problem is that we were promised ALL mail would arrive in trays. the mail centre is struggling to cope with the dsa, so we are having to do work we have not got the staff for!! this was one of the main management arguments for scrapping the night shift!!!! it has come back and bit the management on the arse big style! this morning three managers and four postmen tipping bags........... HO HO HO HO HO HO!!!!!! :dance :dance :dance :dance :dance regards dongash opg macclesfield sk

We were told by our "managers" back in April that all mail would be cut and tipped in the Mail Centre.

Yeh right !!!!!

If we can spare one man to open bags all night (which doesn't happen very often) there are still bags to be tipped at 7 o'clock most mornings,

Well done Royal Fail --------- yet again !!!

you have walk sequencing machines and yet your guys are still doing 2hrs ips.
I thought these machines were supposed to be the dogs b####### and cut almost all manual sorting?

As for DSA i can only see the getting worse as captain allan steers us up s**t creek.
Royal Mail made a big thing about losing 2nd class Amazon packets only for us to take them back as dsa packets???????
How will we survive when the powers that be are cutting our own throats?

The walk sequencing machines can only handle mail that has been through the Mail Centre and has been coded and sorted into batches.

As the MC seems to be bogged down with DSA mail they are struggling to cope.

Don't get me started on the types of mail these machines just can't deal with !!!!

Our packets now come through in sleeved yorks rather than bags.

How ever the M.C will not push them through to arrive in suffecient numbers on the 5 am arrival van. Packets get cleared up, packet sorters do letters and flats which are then cleared before the next van. 6.10 am ish van arives with hardly any letters and flats but loads of packets. Letters and flats are cleared up but plenty of packets left to sort and more spare sorters than there is room for at DBF.

Reason the MC will not push through the yorks? Simple they dont want to set up a fresh set of yorks back up again!

Solution? Later starts with same mail arrival times!

All a grand ploy to get us on later starts i think or am i just being cynical?

...silver lining...

Getting rid of nights, although i do feel sorry for the guys who were pushed off is the best thing to happen to us.
As 24601 has always said, these new super duper machines are crap.
Although it's very much hated, doing more IPS can only be good for you as it's more time in the office so less time out side,so less chances of walks being made bigger.
Add the fact you get on the vans and all that malarkey, all in all it's great, just like my place :Very Happy

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
