THE POLICE:

The Police Federation's claim for a 3.94 per cent rise was turned down by the Government and is now being referred to the independent Police Arbitration Tribunal. Jan Berry, chairman of the Police Federation, said: ''We are outraged, yet sadly not surprised."

LOCAL GOVERNMENT:

Council workers look set to breach Mr Brown's two per cent limit. They have been offered 3.4 per cent on the lowest hourly rate and 2.4 per cent for all other workers with no staging, but which is likely to be linked to savings - meaning thousands of job losses. Unison will decide next week how to respond.

POSTAL WORKERS:

They have already taken industrial action in rejecting a 2.5 per cent pay offer and remain in dispute. The Communications Workers' Union called off planned strikes in August after talks with Royal Mail. Both parties will seek to reach a deal within the next week.

HEALTH WORKERS:

Half a million NHS staff belonging to Unison are balloting on a new pay offer negotiated after a 2.5 per cent staged rise was rejected. Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales all chose to pay the award in full from 1 April, without staging. The ballot closes on September 13.

TEACHERS:

They are due to receive a 2.5 per cent pay rise in September, but a clause stated that this would be reviewed if inflation averaged above 3.25 per cent in the year to March 2007. In fact, it averaged 3.75 per cent, but ministers have insisted this should only be reflected in pay rises from 2008. NUT general secretary Steve Sinnott called the move "a breach of honour".

CIVIL SERVICE:

300,000 Whitehall staff in the Public and Commercial Services Union are being consulted on further strike action, following previous strikes over a 2 per cent pay offer.

LONDON UNDERGROUND:

Around 1,400 maintenance workers employed by failed contractor Metronet have voted for a three-day strike starting at 6pm on Monday. Now the RMT is threatening wider strike action that could bring the Tube to a halt.

Honour? That's a word these b*stards wouldn't know the meaning of. Ministers and Moguls see us as little more than pawns in their games - and when there's talk of apologising for slavery over two hundred years ago - there are those who should take a close look at the circumstances we work under.

What really p***es me off is how ordinary working people, people who work for the benefit of the public, are put down and made to feel ashamed of asking for a decent pay rise, and how we are going to push inflation up if we dare to ask for more money, and yet bosses all over the country have had massive bonuses of millions of pounds, the equivalent to a 37% pay rise, ide bet if you added all their bonuses together it would be enough to give all public sector workers a decent rise, this crap is the same crap bleated out by the conservatives when they were f***ing the country up...UNITY IS STRENGTH.

I think instead of yammering to Leigton and the Crozier Dave and Billy should be talking to the heads of these other unions....We're all in the same boat, we serve the public interest and get dumped on from a great height...Imagine what Brown would do if they announced all the public sector Unions were going out on the same day <though they'd proably try and get an injunction against the prison guards and police and probably everyone else>....Be even Better if they announced it the week before he called for the election which is rumoured to be sometime in October...I think Gordon's underwear would reflect his surname....Sorry if it's all a bit pie in the sky thinking, but when you see that the city bounuses that the pinstripes are getting <I think I read somewhere that it was supposed to be about 1.2 billion, and that's just the bonuses, though I could be wrong> I get a bit hopping mad when i think our last one was 92 p and we nearly didn't get that as they put the goalposts for it on rollerskates so they could shift it about a bit more....Rant endeth

mp's wage increase was more than 2.5% they are nothing more than greedy bassas, no wonder leighton was not giving a toss whether we went on strike or not because the goverment is at the back of them telling them not to give in

The sickening thing is that MPs who live outside London get more in 1 allowance than postmen who live and work in inner London do.

I was really worried Unison'd sell us out on this one, cos they just recommended police workers accept their deal. But I think cos we voted so massively to reject 2% they have turned down the 2.475% offer, so a ballot should begin. Possible action should be 2 days, and could be in early November. I really want to kick their f***ing arse on this.
