Never mind the points does this not carry up to a £2500 fine

There was aposter in the tyre shop claiming this when i was having some fitted a couple of months ago

Edit.

With bald tyres, worn brakes, broken lights or other defect, you can be fined. A bald tyre carries a fine of £2,500. If your defective vehicle kills someone, you can be jailed.

I think its £60 and 3 points if you pay up and the £2500 is if it gets to court, but as this is a RM van and not a private car will they come down heavy.

The guy could be in serious poop here.

It's when the tyres are down to the metal threads that you really need to change them.

Police can only give you three points there and then, if you have more than one bald tyre its ususally a court case and then you can get more points and a bigger fine.

you as the driver are responsible for daily and weekly checks .If the van is passed over to another driver it is his responsibility to do duty checks which is the same as the daily checks .Managers are supposed to do vehicle checks , how many depends on the size of the fleet but he is as responsible as the driver to at least check the vans at least once a week.
