Northern Ireland - Holiday 11th and 12th - back to work Thursday - ergo Tuesdays, Wednesdays and that days mail.

12th and 13th teebs, and only the 12th is an official holiday, the 13th is taken from our leave.

Had a comedy P&L moment today. Residents on the second of our walks got two mail deliveries today.. A spare doing yesterday's mail, then me a few steps behind with today's!

Even though it was pretty light, we still brought back two big loops. Never mind, eh!

In what situations is is operationally feasible? "Low volumes" for HCT users needs defining... 1;2;3;4;5;10? What if it is regular practice to lock up the HCT and do mini-loops with the pouch?

This sets walkers on a very slippery slope, as by "happily" taking out items almost three times the guidelines, we are opening the door for a wedge that will try and enforce walkers to taken even more items in the future.

Then some time in the future some of us will have to leave the job through ill health and then some will be screaming for compensation. But then items above the 1Kg threshold were being taken without protest will come out at the tribunal...

We're off for the 12th and 13th here in Northern Ireland, I knew some were in sorting today, I was going past and was waiting on a letter so decided to pop in and get it and looked at my frame for the morning - covered in packets!

Wow - long day. 90 min overtime.

Got in to find loads of people standing around talking. When I asked why, they said it was cos a load of letters were going to be late arriving.

Then someone says "why are you standing chatting - you have a box of mail to sort at your frame" (I had just arrived). Sure enough there was - but I am part time and not really supposed to be sorting. Gotta wonder why a full timer hadn't done it instead of chatting.

So I left the SO 30 mins later than usual with a LOT of mail. My 4th sack could hardly fit in my red bag. Loads of missorts and parcels that no-one wanted to be in for (those P739 cards really soak up time). Schoolkids walking home as I finished.

Started at 7:00, prep took the best part of four hours, finished at 16:00, cut off with 10 pouches brought back.

Still a bit mystified how I finished on time, stack loads of packets and two signature cards, sometimes I think my body prepares for the killer end of the week when it starts getting heavier!

Today was a total nightmare, volunteered to work my day off for a bit of excess, took me and my P&L partner until 12:00 to prep up, then 20 mins break, then we had 5 specials to do before 1pm, by the time we got to our first loop it was 1:15, did a pouch each, went back to office and spent an hour throwing the cut off mail back into the frame, 2 walks totally and utterly failed.

Just wondering how we will get three days mail in a RM 2000 tomorrow.
